Fresh produce giant Taylor Farms is preparing to recall ingredients linked to a parasite outbreak that has caused severe diarrhea and sickened thousands of people in Michigan and nearby states, according to a report.
The California-based lettuce supplier told federal regulators that it was preparing a recall tied to the widening cyclospora outbreak, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing a document viewed by the outlet. The parasite can cause severe diarrhea, fatigue and nausea.
The scope of the recall was not immediately clear.
The move would mark the clearest sign yet of a potential source of the outbreak, which prompted Taco Bell earlier this week to remove some lettuce from restaurants in the Midwest.
Federal health officials on Thursday linked the illnesses to shredded lettuce served at the fast-food chain and pointed to a single supplier.

Doesn’t say if Taylor farms shipped lettuce to many other places that sold it to people. Was it only the Taco Bell ones?
I’m in Michigan and had romaine lettuce and fresh spinach from Kroger a few days ago and then was told the symptoms may take 1-2 weeks to show up. Unpleasant.
You would think these A-holes would test their lettuce before they sent it out to all the Taco Bells.
That escalated Swiftly.
BTTT!!!
How do you “recall’ human fecal matter and how is that an “ingredient”?
“The California-based lettuce supplier told federal regulators that it was preparing a recall tied to the widening cyclospora outbreak”. Taylor Farms could probably help a person lose some weight.
Free market bad business model.
That “Taco Bell manager” has guilt written all over his face. LOL
I’m not sure how you’d test lettuce for this and achieve reliable results. The parasite is microscopic and isn’t going to show up all over, say, a head of lettuce. I don’t think a sample would give you accurate information.
Probably the best way to know is like this story, when an outbreak shows up and can be traced to produce where the source is known.
I’m limiting myself to greenhouse grown fresh produce for the duration; I’m not sure if even that is reliable, because cross contamination might occur anywhere across supply lines, so...
Just look for the lettuce leaves that the field workers used as toilet paper.
A shame because we have bought Taylor Farms Mediterranean organic salad for a few yrs now from Costco really good salad..just ate it a few weeks ago, good thing I didnt get the exploding poo but I think this only pertains to the iceberg lettuce
Sorry; I meant 15 to go to ‘bullish’.
FYI: This recent article recommends placing lettuce in a weak vinegar solution to kill the cyclospora parasite.
