A teenage schoolgirl unwittingly exposed what has been described as the "world's worst inbred family" when she casually told her classmate: "My sister is pregnant and we don't know which of my brothers is the father." The disturbing comment was overheard by another student, who promptly informed a teacher of what she had inadvertently heard.
It was rare for any children from the family to attend school, as they frequently relocated to different parts of Australia to evade scrutiny.
However, on one of the rare occasions a child did attend, the teacher reported the student's account to Australian authorities — ultimately leading to one of the most shocking incest cases ever uncovered, in July 2012. It comes after a separate horrifying incident, as the so-called 'Incest island' in paradise with generations of inbreeding and girls pregnant at 12 is revealed.
During subsequent court proceedings, the pregnant sister was assigned the pseudonym Tammy Colt. It was revealed that her baby girl, Sally, tragically died within two months of birth.
The infant was described as "extremely dysmorphic" with a thick short neck and low-set ears, and she died from a fatal genetic disorder called Zellweger Syndrome.
Sally's father was not listed on the birth certificate, but Tammy disclosed that she had been in a relationship with a younger brother for three years.
It is believed that both Tammy and her brother carry a genetic disease resulting from inbreeding.
Tammy's sister's inadvertent disclosure at school set off a chain of events with far-reaching consequences — and below we examine the notorious Colt family.
Colt family Following the shocking school revelation, authorities eventually conducted raids on an isolated farm. Authorities uncovered a deeply disturbing incest cult comprising 38 blood relatives.
The family was living in deplorable conditions, and generations of inbreeding had left several children with severe disabilities, rendering some unable to speak or see.
The origins of the case trace back to two great-great-grandparents who went undetected for years within an isolated rural community.
Tim and June, a brother and sister, wed in 1966 in New Zealand before relocating to Australia.
The couple had seven children — Martha, Frank, Paula, Cherry, Rhonda, Betty and Charlie — all of whom endured sexual abuse at the hands of siblings, cousins, an uncle, fathers and grandfathers.
The family resided in "deplorable" conditions, without running water or functioning toilets.
Investigators determined that only one of the children had been fathered by someone outside the family bloodline.
Tim, the patriarch of the family, fathered children with both a daughter and a granddaughter.
In 2012, social services intervened and demanded improvements to their living conditions, before authorities ruled that 12 children between the ages of five and 15 required removal due to the significant risk they faced. Several of the children were subsequently placed with foster families.
Martha, the youngest offspring of Tim and June, shared a bed with her brother Charlie, and together they had five children.
A landmark court case was brought against multiple family members, with charges encompassing incest, child sexual abuse, indecency against a child and perjury. Despite eight family members being taken into custody following their arrests in 2018, only four ultimately received prison sentences.
Martha, her daughter Raylene, and her sisters Betty and Rhonda faced charges of providing false information regarding the paternity of their children.
In a troubling Facebook post from 2018, she shared a photo alongside two female relatives, captioned: "Love makes a Family."
Rhonda received a 14-month intensive corrections order (ICO) for perjury, while Raylene was sentenced to 16 months for the same offense.
Betty was convicted on four counts of perjury, one count of lying under oath, and one count of perverting the course of justice, receiving a 14-month prison sentence.
Tim Colt's son, Roderick, was found guilty of raping his niece, who was also his half-sister — a victim named Petra, the child of Tim and Betty.
Martha pleaded guilty to five counts of perjury and one count of making a false statement under oath.
Betty is believed to currently reside in New South Wales with a son who is in his 20s.
A total of 80 charges were brought against eight members of the Colt family, though many were subsequently dropped.
Charlie Colt faced 27 charges but was acquitted after being found not guilty on two counts.
Following their exposure, some members of the family established a social media presence, though they now appear to have retreated from public life, much as they did during Tim Colt's time in control.
Tim, who outlived his wife, ultimately passed away in 2009, after which his family relocated to New South Wales, where a startling schoolyard discovery brought the whole truth to light.

Because western governments are either afraid, indifferent, capitulating, collaborating with these people.
These people are depraved. How this went on for so long is very curious. Why didn’t local officials investigate why the kids were hardly ever in school? That could have led to the deplorable living conditions and incest.
