I clicked on my bookmark for Free Republic.
The splash page came up.
And then in dawned on me:
Free Republic is 30 years old this year!
TV ain't far behind!
The stations websites are nothing but ads with very little content.
And the ads are for stupid crap, too!
Care to enlighten us?
says 26 on yer homepage...
Clymers - how we miss them!
drag and drop?
In June of ‘97, the chassis was beginning to misfire and slow down, so much so it was in danger of being totaled. Took it to the shop and the technician told me the analog ignition was faulty, and I should really get a new, digital one.
Asked about the cost and was told insurance would cover it.
Make it so!
AS the years have gone by, the battery in the ‘new’ igniter was ready to give out, so a completely new set of electronics was installed. Much better diagnostics on it! (Sure glad I had the Extended Warranty package!)
Went to the shop again just last month and they assured me that I had at least 5 more years on the current battery. “What about the chassis?”, I asked - laughingly. “That would be the guys in the next building over. They do that kind of stuff.”
Well, the old body has had it’s share of dings and dents. Fluids leaking out when they shouldn’t - fluids drying up when THEY were expected to last a LOT longer, but, overall, it’s been quite reliable, going Way past the expected date to visit the boneyard.
I’ll pamper it a bit more - gotta keep the wife from looking at the newer models.
Yes! I’d put tv station websites right up there with newspaper sites. Almost all unusable
Lurking from about 1999 to 2000, greatest news and discussion site on the internet!
Thank You Free Republic
I had a website covering the Clintons in the 1990s.
It was a time eater keeping it updated since the Clintons had endless scandals and there was so much to cover—very difficult since I had a challenging real day job.
Jim’s site did it better—so I ended my site and came here.
My highlights of those years was the “Vince Foster” tour of the DC area where some locals investigating the case gave me a tour of Ft. Marcy Park and I got to meet some of the good guys hard at work.
We thought we had a handle of most of the Clinton scandals.
Then one mass media publication had a photograph of a meeting in the Oval Office. Folks here posted it and zoomed in on a piece of paper on one of the tables.
It was a lengthy handwritten document listing a bunch of scandals that the White House was busy “managing”.
We had never heard of 90% of them.
Those scandals were the ones they had totally “contained”.
We knew at that point we had a lot more work to do.
The spirit of investigation and collaboration in those days was amazing.
The candidate I was working for showed me Free Republic in April '98. Didn't get around to registering until '02.
I am glad the Clintons did not have you Arkancided.
The Clintons did not target investigators—they targeted witnesses.
As lawyers they understood that if you eliminate witnesses then “proof” of anything is much much harder.
Happy birthday to us and a great big thank you to the late, great Jim Robinson!
Happy Birthday, FR💐🎂
Remember Jim Robinson. May he rest in eternal peace 🙏🏻
Not sure what you are looking at, but that date is what appears on my profile.
“drag and drop?”
Ideally.
Just a simple copy/paste would work. I avoid most images having to used postimage.
My FR name was different before that - spmething like PapaNew or something. I got tired of that and changed it...
