Kia recalling almost 463,000 Tellurides that may catch fire while being driven or parked, agency says

Kia America is recalling almost 463,000 Telluride midsize crossover SUVs from the 2020-2024 model years that could catch fire while being driven or parked, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says.

The front power seat motor may overheat due to a stuck power seat slide knob or an improper repair during a prior recall, and the result could be a fire while the vehicles are being driven or parked, the agency says.

As a result, the NHTSA is advising owners of the affected Tellurides to park outdoors and away from structures until the latest recall repair is done.

Dealers will install an electronic fuse assembly free of charge, the agency says, adding that letters notifying owners about the issue are expected to be mailed on Aug. 13.

Kia doesn’t stand for Killed In Automobile like the teenages call them.

I remember the recall for my 1997 Explorer. The cruise control used a diaphragm sensor on the brake master cylinder where the sensor wire was hot at all times. If the diaphragm ruptured you could get a fire, which could happen even if the vehicle was off (such as if the diaphragm material degraded). There were many fires from it. The “fix” was a new wiring harness with a fuse embedded in it.

That about covers it. Stand back!!

No, hit that ramp as fast as you can and do a Dukes of Hazzard. No reports of them catching fire while airborne.

If your wife needs a heated steering wheel in July, you probably need to get her to a doctor.

Keep your 20 year old cars.

25 years is the magic number in Texas. No environmental testing in the urban counties. (Except San Antonio - apparently no point requiring it there for obvious reasons.)

The recall repair involves issuing asbestos underwear.
