Why Do Jews Keep Voting for Leftists Who Hate Them?
American Thinker ^ | 6 Jul, 2026 | Elise Cooper

One author thinks she has found the answer.

he Jews and the Left, Batya Ungar-Sargon’s latest book, takes readers through the long history of Jews in American political life, from George Washington’s praise for the Jews to FDR and the Civil Rights movement, concluding with the shock many Americans felt on October 7, when Hamas committed the 21st-century Holocaust that was not universally condemned.

Batya noted, “I wrote the book because the question that I get asked, maybe the most, especially by Christians, conservatives, Republicans, is ‘why do the Jews vote for the Democrats, when the Democrats hate them, and we love them?’”

Although the book ends with the aftermath of October 7, the results of the recent New York and Maine primary elections underscore the book’s relevancy today and are a dramatic postscript. A direct threat to America’s values and ideals is the recently elected Democrat candidates that include Nazis, communists, and antisemites.

Maine Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner has a chest tattoo of the Totenkopf, the skull-and-crossbones icon adopted by the infamous Nazi SS unit. He retweeted a post that characterized Judaism as a “death cult” and praised the military tactics that Hamas used in 2014 in the horrific execution of five Israeli soldiers.

Batya addresses the Nazi tattoo directly.

The left told people who were not Nazis, “You are Nazis, you are white supremacists. You are evil.” And now they’re lining up behind a guy with an actual Totenkopf tattoo and who knew what it was. And that’s not a deal breaker for them?

In my book, I have this quote that applies: ‘Many in the Democratic Party insist that it is the radical left that has turned on the Jews, not the mainstream of the party. But, few of the Democratic politicians are willing

BTW....this voting for the group that hates your guts and makes no secret of it.....Jews are far from alone in doing that. My brother and both of my brothers in law - White heterosexual males all - vote Democrat.

For the life of me, I don’t know how any straight White man could vote vote the Democrats when they act as though the White Penis is the source of all evil in the world.

I know about a thousand Jews.

I have never once experienced Christian hate among them.

We do think Christianity is weird. We don’t agree about lots of things. But every religion thinks that about every other religion.

But visceral hate? Never seen it. Not once. Hundreds of American Jews, hundreds of Israeli Jews.

The same can be said of a lot of Gentiles who vote Democrat. But for Jews even more so.

I have seen it up close and personal. But it's a lot rarer than some folks think.

Notice that I didn't answer the question, becauyse quite frankly I do not know the answer.. My best guess is stupiity, but that can't be the correct answer, because there are many bright people within both groups of people I've heard some say it is self -loating, which may explain some of it, but it is far too complex for me to determine what the asnswer to these riddles are. 😁🤙

I have come to what I regard as satisfactory conclusions as to why most Jews vote Democrat, but it is hard to condense into an easy answer.

I'll mention a few points.

They are taught to think as a "tribe." Tribes tend to be socialistic and look after everyone who is considered part of the tribe, and so the idea of looking out for everybody appeals to people who have this mindset.

Tikkun olam. The idea that you should make the world a better place. If you think it is your duty to make the world a better place, and you are okay with using the tool of Government to enact that idea, then you will tend to support the party that likes using big government for things it wasn't designed to do.

Lots of Russian Jews in America. Their families came from Russia, and have the socialist mindset that a lot of Russians had, and from what i've been told, this socialist mindset goes way back before Lenin ever brought Communism to Russia.

Year ago I spoke with a guy who said he was a German Jew, and the German Jews were far less favorable to Socialism and much more oriented to Capitalist economics, but unfortunately Hitler killed so many of them, that they are much less influential than the Russian Jews.

They vote the way their families do, same as everyone else. If their fathers and grandfathers voted Democrat, they will tend to do that as well.

Anti-Christian sentiment. As I said in an earlier post, a lot of older Jews were coerced and disrespected because they would not adopt Christian viewpoints, Christian holidays, or convert. A lot of Christians back in the day were obnoxious @$$holes, and would not stop pressuring and maligning them regarding conversion, and a lot of people have resentment towards people who are overtly Christian, and do not want to support them because of their bad memories.

Years ago I spoke with an older Jewish woman who told me about how miserable they treated her when she was a little girl. I've seen other accounts of such treatment online and in videos.

Just a few points that if you look into them with more depth, it makes it far easier to understand why most Jews tend to vote Democrat.

Conservatives should know that there is a distinct group of Jews who are very conservative politically. The simple fact is that conservatism aligns very well with Orthodox Judaism. Conceptually, Orthodox Judaism also seeks to conserve bedrock principles and values. It disdains immorality, falsehood and tyranny. I have been a solid conservative since I first subscribed to WFBjr’s National Review (not the current pusillanimous version) in the 80’s. We are a very rapidly growing demographic part of the “Jewish vote”.

Jews who discarded their traditional faith or were born into de-Judaized families still had the burning Jewish passion for ideals. So they adopted a new religion: liberalism. It makes them feel wonderfully idealistic without all that troublesome Kosher, Sabbath and Purity laws. It had the added benefit of making them feel loved by others.

Now comes along the red-green alliance and woe unto the Jewish liberals who are now hated regardless.

I have long thought that Jews probably look at Christians the way a lot of Christians look at the Mormons.

"Yeah, it's derived from our religion, but they did weird unsettling things with it."

For contrast, do Jews like muslims?

Hell no!

Those people want to murder us!

But if it weren’t for the murder part, they’d just be another flavor of not-Jew; unremarkable.

There is a lot of truth to what you post, and I have indeed heard that explanation as well, but it still doesn't explain why they continue to support those who now hate you. One woild normal turn away from that hostility, especially when that hostility is only ncreasing with no decline in sight..

Even I as a lifelong supporter of Republicans, have soured on the party, but there is no alternative, except to replace the party establishment.

Jews and supporters of Israel were absolutely dominant in the Democratic Party until five minutes ago, and they still control it, no ifs, ands or buts.

The worst case for them in 2027-2029 is maybe ten serious opponents of Israel in the House and two in the Senate. No anti-Israel legislation will pass nor pro-Israel legislation fail to pass.

Which is not to say that things could not get really spicy. For example, imagine the Democrats win 221 House seats and the Republicans 214 House seats, but the hard-core DSA people have eight seats. If they abstain from the vote for Speaker and for Committee chairs, than the Republicans can retain administrative control of the House despite being in the minority.

They lost the pioneer spirit somewhere along the way. They even used to venture into the heart of Apache country in the toughest towns of the Old West. Established useful and prosperous businesses. Now all concentrated in the God forsaken big democrat strongholds. Lost their way in the diaspora.

I went to the site, but like with so many of these articles, my Norton antivirus blocked some malvertising that was on the page. The American Thinker really need to get their act together on who sponsors them.

“”””A lot of older Jews remember when the country was more overtly Christian and would pressure them to convert, or say Christian prayers, celebrate Christian holidays, etc.
A lot of this pressure was unwelcome and coercive, so they tend to side against people who are overtly Christian.
A lot of Christians were rather obnoxious in their dealings with Jews back in the day.””””

Until fairly recently the hard core Christians were Democrats, Republicans were sort of wishy washy, bland moderate, polite Christians, that is why the social liberal republican state California and Northern states fell so easily to the left while the social conservative bible people democrats (now GOP) of Texas and the deep democrat states have survived even immigration.

If you wanted Hellfire and brimstone Bible carrying evangelizers you headed for the democrat heartland.

Conservatives know about republican voting Jews and even some conservative jews, but the discussions are usually about the overall Jewish vote and Jewish power and influence, and there isn’t a reason to get off into sub groups, or how polling in Israel is going during a presidential election, it is mildly interesting to know, but not the topic of the bigger discussion.

I didn’t say hate.

That’s your manipulation.

It is human nature for all tribes to want to be among their own.

Exactly so.

My pro-Christianity-for-Christians perspective is: “How else was the rest of humanity going to get the Ten Commandments?”

The Confederacy welcomed a Jew into the cabinet; the United States didn’t catch up for another half century when Republican Oscar Strauss joined the Teddy Roosevelt cabinet.
