Angler Catches ‘Fish Of A Lifetime’ To Set New State Record In Idaho
Daily Caller ^ | July 06, 2026 | Andrew Powell Sports Reporter

I’m seeing this just days before my vacation … I hope this is a sign.

A Georgia angler took a trip to Idaho for some fishing at the iconic South Fork Snake River, putting a target on trout that ultimately led her to a new state record. The angler, Caroline Langdale, had a bit of a battle with the record-breaking brown trout May 30 prior to measuring it and giving it the good ol’ fashioned “catch and release” treatment.

Catch and release and certified weight are the two state fishing records maintained by Idaho. This particular landing is in the catch and release category as the fish was put back into the river after being measured. “I never dreamed when I started my day of fishing with Ed Emory of South Fork Lodge that God was going to bless me with a fish of a lifetime,” Langdale told Idaho Fish and Game.

Check out this bad boy:

As I’ve already mentioned, I’m just days away from a two-week vacation in South Florida, and most of my fishing will be done in the canals. With this being the case, here is my target list going into things:

Common Snook

Mangrove Snapper

Sheepshead

Largemouth Bass

Butterfly Peacock Bass

Peacock Cichlid

Tarpon

Redfish

Spotted Seatrout

Bluegill

Tilapia

With how much preparation I’ve put into this trip, quite frankly, I better catch all of them … and I’ve got a lot of confidence that I can do it.

Thank God the State of Idaho has Initiative Petition 28 (IP28),

also known as the PEACE Act.

If it passes, it would eliminate existing legal exemptions for hunting, fishing, livestock farming, and pest control, making these activities punishable under state animal cruelty statutes.

oh wait, wrong state :)

I’ve been fishing the South Fork of the Snake River most of my life. That’s a great fish. I’ve never got close to something like that. I used to drift the river a lot. Browns are the trout family white shark. I caught one with a minnow sticking out of his throat after he hit my big black spinner. The river stays cold most years and the fish generally stay active. I’m no fan of eating trout. Unless I hurt them, they go back. My wife loves eating them. I’d rather have perch. The South Fork of the Snake River is a beautiful float trip from Swan Valley to Ririe. Right now it can be a quick float. They’re dumping 14,000 cfs through Palisades Dam for irrigation. Happy 4th yall.

Unless the fish was too badly damaged, that’s the only fishing my husband has ever done.

Catch and release is woke.

Hardly. I caught over 80 Rainbow Trout one day a few years ago and tossed all but two back. The two I kept where in the 2lb range and were great eating.

“I don’t care much for freshwater fish..........

I like in no particular order: crappie, blue gill, perch, channel cat, frog legs, crawfish, halibut, limited quantities of trout, lobsters. If they are fresh. Saltwater my favorite is halibut, freshwater its channel cat or crappie. It was still one hell of a Brownie.

Good grief, when that thing hit the lure he had to be thinking, “Oh, good, I’ve caught a human!”

If she caught that fish on the South Fork of the Snake River it’s no sturgeon in a brown Suit. The sturgeon native in the Snake River stop at Twin Falls Idaho. fish and Game have planted sturgeon above Twin Falls but below the North Fork and South Fork merger. I’d like to know what she was fishing with. That thing on a fly rod would be amazing.

Heck, his clients have caught that same fish every week for the last 10 summers.

There is nothing better tasting fish anywhere in the world than a good-size freshwater walleye pike skinned filet, caught an hour or two ago and broiled. With butter.
