On the classic Hollywood Squares game show, comedian Charley Weaver — once gave a famously off‑the‑wall answer to the question:

“If you’re going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be?”

Weaver replied: “Three days of steady drinking should do it.”

No time to jump.

007 'skydives' into an airplane:

And yes, it is possible. The Red Bull maniacs have had skydivers 'fly' into an airplane on several occasions...

... but they "didn't get it" on the first try.

They should have jumped out.

Early eighties. Flying Elvi - Look ‘em up.

Guy I worked with was one of them. Real nut-case, lotsa fun, competent radar tech.

The group took off out of Boulder City, Nevada, airport some afternoon for a practice run.
Engine started acting up, then quit. Pilot hollered “Bail!”, took less than ten seconds to empty the plane.
Pilot had enough altitude to turn and get back on the runway in one piece and reusable.
Found fuel system sabotage if I remember right. Don’t know whatever came of it.
No injuries, just bad case of nerves.

Listening to him talk about about it at work was a riot.

“ 79 1/2. Still doing ladders but not roofs!”
62 here, have been having fun wrecking motorcycles, cars and other motorized equipment since I was able to. Jumped out of perfectly good aircraft over a dozen times.Have owned three aircraft and presently looking for my 4th.
Find something fun to do during your life, or you will just get old and be sitting in that rest home wishing you had done something exciting!
I still climb on roofs, and use 30’ extension ladders….

There is a difference between getting onto an airplane for an exciting destination or rest and relaxation and jumping out of the airplane with a parachute. But you might not see that difference.

i can say that a relative who wanted to see “big fish” in Mexico left behind 4 children and destroyed a family who 10 years out is still filling the void he left behind including some now very maladjusted children.

...a relative...left behind 4 children

Not sure how much risk there is in "fish watching".

But agree with one of your points. When my wife told me she was pregnant with our first son I told her I was through skydiving. And I found the sport entirely enjoyable and safe so long as one engaged their brain.

Scuba. Another manly adventure. Big fish are down there pretty deep.

As for skydiving its not usually about the skydiver. No one cares if you break an ankle. Its usually about the uncontrolled air field or the overloaded or poorly maintained Part 91 planes or the low altitude maneuvers.

Quite the opposite, and with that you have demonstrated you have very little idea of what you are talking about.

Scuba is pretty safe as long as you stay to the 60 foot max depth. Your TBT is really high, and you can emergency surface on one breath. There’s also the little mini emergency tanks you can use. An emergency ascent from 60 feet is very unlikely to give you “The Bends”. The adrenaline junkies are the ones running mix gas and going to 200 feet.

I think their plan was 100+ feet. And, both the father and an adult son died. There may have been a rescue attempt but it is unknown.

And, another reason for shunning the great men who play these stupid games. The rescuers always seen to get the short end.
