Gratuitous adventure seeking whether it is skydiving, base jumping, bungee, scuba, cliff wall, back country skiing etc. is the symptom of a selfish, self centered egoistic culture. These increased risks mean nothing to the participants and everything to their bereaved families, friends and businesses. And the loss and expense of their rescuers is nver really compensated ot even considered.

And, all this for a big color photo on the screensaver of the great man or woman.

Who will raise the children of these selfish now dead bastards?

Sounds horrible.

Once as a kid, probably 12 - 14 or so, me and a cousin near my age got a ride on a parachute jump plane. My older cousin and his friend did the jumping along with others. I remember being a little freaked out over the open door and holding onto my seat firmly.

I am almost 80. I look back on my life satisfied I was not afraid to adventure out of my house.

Sorry you missed out.

I made it through Airborne School nearly 50 years ago. My third jump was from a C-141. As I was looking out the open door of the plane, I kept thinking, "what the heck am I doing here?"

One of the happiest moments of my life was walking off the drop zone after my fifth and final jump. Many thanks to the awesome Black Hats (instructors) for a fantastic experience.

I don’t know. Life without adventure sounds kinda boring. I’ve repelled down cliff faces, rode in small aircraft more times than I can count, almost died falling through ice and again canoeing in flood waters. And at 68 years old I spent most of the day Friday repairing a roof. I hate ladders anymore but someone has to do it.

At least they were not seeking thrills from Heroin or Fentynl.

Two weeks ago in Butler, MO, 12 people died in a skydiving plane crash shortly after takeoff.

One source I found says it was a Pilatus Porter, a STOL single-enging turbo prop. The same plane Pierce Brosnan skydived into in one of the 007 films.

“the aircraft appeared to suffer damage before plunging vertically to the ground”
I wonder if it might have been a drone collision. Purely accidental if it was. I can’t imagine anyone living in France doing that intentionally.

Ditto.

By the way, Anton, this was not deaths due to skydiving, it was a horrible plane crash probably due to pilot error or mechanical failure. One wonders how you feel about all those who travel by air, or even by auto.

I think I could’ve done it in a military situation, i.e., “I’m not going to let my buddies down, so I’m going to jump.” But otherwise, I’m don’t like heights and I don’t feel the need. Flying IN the plane is fine though.

Same here, my buddy who was flying made me lie on the floor with my head over the edge so I could see a human become the size of an ant in about one second. That would have ended my interest in jumping even if a girl hadn’t broken he ankle on that jump run.
