US sends warships, planes and Marine general to Venezuela after earthquakes

The United States is sending hundreds of personnel, two warships, fixed and rotary-winged aircraft, and search and rescue teams to Venezuela in the wake of Wednesday’s earthquake that killed more than 500 people. The first arrivals, with a Marine Corps general leading them, reached Caracas Thursday night.

Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Kevin J. Jarrard, who previously commanded the 4th Marine Division, arrived in Caracas on Thursday.

The exact number of military personnel deploying hasn’t been disclosed, but is in the hundreds and is pulled from multiple branches.

Rotary-wing aircraft stationed in the region are flying in assistance teams. Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys carried an airfield assessment team to Venezuela to assist in airlift operations. Additionally, three Army CH-47 Chinooks with Joint Task Force-Bravo flew supplies in as well. The force, based out of Soto Cano Air Base in Honduras, is the U.S. military’s main response force in Central America and has routinely mobilized disaster relief missions, including one to Jamaica late last year after a hurricane flooded large parts of the island.

Dang, that Trump is really something. Staged a major earthquake so now we have “reason” to send a bunch more troops into Venezuela.

(Do I need to add “/s”? Just in case?)

If you were on certain parts of Reddit right now, yes, sadly

If Venezuela as the 51st state is more than a talking point, now is the time to prove it. Show the world—and the Venezuelan people—that the proposal is serious, with a clear vision and concrete action.

Actually it is.

Many of these ships can provide power (electricity), water (desalination), the Marines can help provide security (a major concern after such events), command and control and communications. They can also provide some logistics: helicopters etc.

Many of your civilian helpers actually STRESS the local logistics even more (they are not self contained).

The military is able to operate in the most austere and even high threat environments (example Somalia) where civilian aid organizations can’t even get to.

This has been done many times and works extremely well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Unified_Assistance

But it never fails, people criticize it.

I was in jest. The Corp of Engineers works miracles. I have numerous FMs which describe civilian support operations, including water supply and sewage treatment. Army portable medical facilities are better than many permanent facilities.

Jest-

I was infantry.

They write our FMs and TMs at an 8th grade reading level: first person, short sentences, simple lexicon.

I don’t pick up on that always. LOL

I was also infantry, then they stuck me in the Adjutant General Corps because I had a BS in Computer Science. Infantry appealed to me, AGC not so much. That did keep me out of Vietnam; but, I tend to feel guilty about it.

When my SIL was a Marine, he helped with recovery efforts after the 2005 tsunami. I’m sure the experience still haunts him.

Odd is it not, the United States Military also known in liberal circles as the hand of oppression and evil, it is not, is now saving lives in a nation that hated us. Not the nation but their Marxist government. The people of Venezuela welcome them.

PS
Lived their in the 70s prior to Chavez. It was free and prosperous. In five years it will regain its prosperity and freedom. Thank you Donald Trump.
