Trump Lashes Out at ‘Fools’ Criticizing His Iran Deal: ‘Either Jealous, Bad People, or Stupid’
Mediaite ^ | June 17, 2026 | Zachary Leeman

President Donald Trump kicked off his Thursday morning by lashing out at critics of his 14-point deal with Iran, calling them “fools.”

On Truth Social, Trump bragged about stock market gains this week and average gas prices falling slightly since the announcement of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), which can be read here. The deal has found critics on both sides of the political aisle, with some arguing that the deal is not tough enough on Iran. Others have also red-flagged framework in the deal that would set up a $300 billion reconstruction fund, as well as sanctions being lifted on Iran.

Trump dismissed these critics as “either jealous, bad people, or stupid.”

“These fools, who think I haven’t been tough enough on Iran, when the Stock Market Just Hit A RECORD HIGH, and Oil prices are ‘tumbling’ down, are either jealous, bad people, or stupid. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! President DJT,” the president wrote.

Trump spoke about the MOU during a press conference at the G7 summit on Wednesday, where he also pointed to the stock market.

“So the one thing I didn’t want to see is — I didn’t want to see economic catastrophe. If you kept this going, that could have happened. But all I know is, every time we talked about the possibility of peace, the stock market shot up like a rocket ship. It never went down. They didn’t like it — the people. You know, the stock market is more brilliant than anybody there is,” he said.

Trump formally signed a memorandum of understanding while in Versailles, France, that includes ending a Navy blockade, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and more.

The president has warned that if Iran does not follow through on the deal, then he’ll go right back to “bombing” them.

“If I don’t like it, if they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head. OK? Because they’ve misbehaved for 47 years,” he said.

There is only one Commander-in-Chief, and he horrifically miscalculated the cost of victory.

As I said here dozens of times, President Trump made two egregious errors:

1. He never explained to the American people what the “imminent threat” was. Without that evidence, popular support was shaky from the get-go.

2. By incessantly declaring victory, he undercut the idea that we needed to commit to a long-term war (vs. that silly “excursion” business.)

Once again - Trump is lashing out at his hard core supporters. That is if you consider a hard core “Best President Evah!” die hard Trump can do now wrong believer who felt nuking Iran was the only option a hard core supporter.

For real conservatives.... there is much to criticize Trump about. But he is gracefully saving face the best way he can since entering this war in the first place.

The oil was flowing just fine before Trump started the war.

So we are right back where we started from last winter.

“1. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, together with their allies in the current war, declare upon the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding an immediate and permanent end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and undertake that from now on they will not launch any hostile action against each other, and will refrain from the threat or use of force against each other. The final agreement will confirm the provisions of this Article and the remaining Articles.”

That basically gives Hezbollah a free hand in Lebanon. It doesn’t require Hezbollah to disarm or accept Lebanese government control. It doesn’t require Iran to stop supplying weapons or money to buy weapons to non-nation state actors.

“2. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States undertake to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.”

That removes US leverage for the final agreement. It doesn’t given merchant ships a right to transit the Strait of Hormuz or restore an international waters pathway through the Strait.

“3. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States undertake to negotiate and reach a final agreement within a maximum period of 60 days, extendable by mutual consent.”

Why can’t it be done now?

There’s no declaration of how much enriched uranium Iran has and how many centrifuges Iran has nor a requirement that a declaration be made.

“4. Immediately upon the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, the United States Lift the naval blockade and prevent any interference or obstruction against the Islamic Republic of Iran, and restore traffic within a maximum of 30 days to its full capacity; the traffic of ships shall be proportional to the pre-war volume of traffic on the part of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

There’s no clear requirement that Iranian traffic be proportionate to other Gulf state traffic. Iran may be so dysfunctional that even ggod faith efforts by its government may be insufficient. Extortion attempts might be made by non-governmental people. Non-Iranian oil ships may not be able to secure insurance. The Islamic Republic of Iran is not required to reinsure Arab Gulf State oil shipments.

“The United States also undertakes to withdraw its forces from the surrounding areas within 30 days after the final agreement.”

How far?

“5. Upon signing this Memorandum of Understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take steps to ensure that the movement of merchant ships from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa is resumed within 30 days to the pre-war volume, taking into account the need for the removal of technical obstacles and the neutralization of mines by Iran.”

There’s no performance requirement, such as Iranian tanker shipments may not exceed 40% of Kuwaiti, Saudi and UAE tanker shipments, only an effort requirement.

“6. The United States undertakes, together with its regional partners, to create a comprehensive plan agreed upon by both parties for the rehabilitation and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran, While ensuring financing of at least $300 billion. The implementation mechanism of this plan, as part of the final agreement, will be formulated within 60 days.”

What would they use the money for?

Loans, gifts, co-share investments? Who has to pony up how much?

“7. The United States commits to ending, on a schedule to be agreed upon as part of the final agreement, all types of sanctions currently facing the Islamic Republic of Iran, including resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and all unilateral U.S. sanctions, both primary and secondary.”

That means the US hands are tied, perhaps forever. The only way around this is for the US to give up UN membership.

The IAEA would be rendered toothless.

“8. The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates that it will never produce nuclear weapons. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States have agreed that the fate of enriched material and the fate of all other mutually agreed nuclear-related issues, including Iran’s nuclear needs, will be adequately addressed in a final agreement; the final agreement will confirm the provisions of this Article.”

Iran really has no nuclear needs.

There’s no requirement that Iran stop centrifuge work.

Iran could simply allow Hezbollah to fly in and build bombs or could sell the enriched uranium and centrifuges to Iranian Hardliners Ltd., or Hezbollah Two Inc.

“9. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States agree that, pending a final agreement, they will maintain the status quo: Iran will maintain the status quo on its nuclear program, and the United States will not impose new sanctions on Iran or strengthen its forces in the region.”

That’s fairly reasonable. However, there’s no time limit, such as 120 days.

“10. The United States undertakes that immediately after the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, and until the date of the lifting of sanctions, the United States Treasury Department will issue waivers for exports of Iranian crude oil, petrochemical products and their derivatives, and all related services, including banking, insurance, transportation, and the like.”

That removes US leverage but doesn’t remove a gram of enriched uranium or a single centrifuge.

“11. The United States undertakes that, in light of the progress of negotiations towards a final agreement, frozen or restricted funds and assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be released and made fully available. These funds, whether held in the master account or transferred, will be used for any final beneficiary payment determined by the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Jun 16, 2026”

The funds are the primary leverage the US has to reach a final agreement.

There’s also no limitation on Iranian missiles.

*****

Note, I’ve looked it over and it has everything Iran wanted but only requires Iran to attempt to let other states export oil.

Funny, I seem to remember Unconditional Surrender and eliminating the nuclear threat as fundamental goals. Not record stock market prices.

I guess we’ll take what we can get.

This Iranian war has been a disaster that failed to achieve its goals. Trump was desperate for a “deal”, literally any deal to exticate from the mess. Sadly there will be a regime change. The demonic Democrats will ride the political backlash to power in ‘26 and ‘28. Trump is a very troubled man who is now projecting blame on Netanyahu and Israel. His impulsive decision to go to war ruined his Administration and his legacy. He can spin it all he likes but it is the American people and the American nation that will suffer greatly.

There was an “expert” on CBS Mornings today who said that US will be giving “billions” of dollars to Iran even before the 60 days are up. This “expert” didn’t even say that a “final” deal on nuclear material must be agreed before any US sanctions is lifted. It seems these “experts” are lying to the public already about this deal. I agree with you that Trump is finding an off ramp to help with the midterms. This intermediate deal is about getting the strait opened.

“Sooner or later Iran will break the deal and the bombs will drop again. “

Not a chance.

Once this winds down this POTUS will not mobilize forces sufficient to make any difference in Iran’s behavior. He won’t even do it now.

Iran laughs aloud at every bombastic threat.

First, I’m not sure “responding” is the same as “lashing out”, but okay.

The MOU is a starting point, not a final deal. For heavens’ sake, people, let the man work and we’ll see where this goes. He’s earned some trust.

That trust is dissipated when he makes a staggeringly inane defense of Iran keeping a missile stockpile.

“He never explained to the American people what the “imminent threat” was.”

Iran was starting work on rebuilding enrichment plants deep underground that would be immune from attack.

The threat from Iran would mainly be of extortion, as has been the case of North Korea, not of bomb blasts.

I don’t think a single tanker has been sunk in this war, but Iran’s weapons are ensuring oil doesn’t flow unless Iran gets billions.

Imminent is related to menace, not minute.

Tel Aviv is Israel’s key city, and Iranian missiles can’t reliably be stopped from hitting it. Putin can’t successfully protect his oil refineries.

Nevertheless, Trump waited as long as possible.

The time to have stopped Hitler wasn’t the day or two before his invasion of Poland.

This is a 60 day band aid to help get oil prices down and get more serious negotiations started. If Iran doesn’t get their act together I suspect we’ll see bombing, one day after the midterms.

“He started thinking “$$$$$$$$$$$” instead of national security.”

There’s no doubt he has harmed US national security with this “deal”.

Iran is THE hegemon of the entire Middle East now, from Lebanon to the Pakistan border.

And they’ll get their nuke.
