A promising new drug could put an end to cumbersome CPAP machines and allow millions of Americans to breathe easy and sleep soundly.
Researchers at the biopharm company Apnimed have been developing a sleep apnea drug called AD109. After various clinical trials, they are preparing to file for FDA approval.
“A pill for sleep apnea has always been the holy grail,” Dr. Andrew Wellman, a Harvard sleep researcher, told Forbes, noting that over the past several years, at least 40 drug candidates have been tested for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) without success.

I’ve been hearing about this for a while, which is a good thing.

Will I lose weight?...... 😆
Can sleep apnea be fatal or turn one into a vegetable? I told my doc I refuse to live like that and an RN friend ignored her diagnosis.
Holding one’s breath for 10 seconds while sleeping, sometimes dozens of times per hour can’t be good. Snoring is essentially gasping for breath. Has to be hard on the heart. I do know someone who died from sleep apnea.
Thats one of the reasons why its dangerous. Over the course of years the walls of one chamber become heavily scarred reducing the amount that chamber can take in while the next chamber is getting its walls thinned and becomes larger not being able to pump the full volume to the next chamber.
I have used a Resmed Sleep apnea machine for alomst two years now. I sleep so much better than I used to. To the point that I do not need as much sleep as I used to.
I used CPAP for years. Then I lost a little weight and my snoring got somewhat better. Now I use a boil and bite mouth guard with good results. No more CPAP!
Another easy-fix pill, which will require another pill to mitigate the negative effects.
What are the 50 deadly and crippling side effects this will cause?
I had sleep apnea too, mine resolved completely when I lost 50 lbs. The weight loss also fixed my reflux and BP, but I still don’t eat past 7, and keep the head of my bed raised 6”.
None of this was mentioned when I was diagnosed
But CNS sleep apnea is a different animal.
“‘Holy Grail’ Sleep Apnea Pill Can Cut Episodes by More Than 50%”. I’m lucky I don’t have sleep apnea, but I do have these occasional brownouts.
My wife used a CPAP machine for a while but hated it and quit using it at all. Eventually she lost quite a bit of weight and the sleep apnea went away almost entirely. Still snores a bit but nothing like before, and those long (or at least they seemed to last forever) pauses are gone.
Same. Use a mouth guard from a sporting goods store.
Bingo.
How many times must we go thru this before people learn finally that big pharma will NEVER cure anything. A cured patient would cease being a customer.
bkmk
It’s a stimulant, so probably.
A milk chocolate Indica gummy an hour before bed works for me. Asleep in 15 min and never snore. I have no idea why.
I don’t believe anything my doctor tell me now.
Well, I do trust, but verify.
