The show was first announced with a series order in November 2025. It hailed from writer, executive producer, and showrunner Martin Gero, who was a writer on 'Stargate SG-1' and 'Stargate: Atlantis' early in his career.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero's take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fanbase.
Still seeking that elusive mOdErn aUdiEnce! Instead, Amazon is thinking of handing the series to "someone who does not have history with it and would give it a fresh new perspective."

Well this is sure to be a money loser. Must be nice to have so much money you don’t mind losing millions. And of course it will have it’s DEI, or progressive crap front and center. Waste of time and money.
Standby for another ‘Mandalorian and GroGu’ (it’s already on YouTube), time to screw another good SyFy franchise .....
Opps! I almost forgot.
To the new cast and staff and crew, list your pronouns now or be shut out!
Close the Iris immediately and with extreme prejudice.
Sure, the now impolitic anti-Trump themes could have been written out of the new series. Doing so though would have had angry writers and producers running their mouths to Hollywood trade publications and websites. That is a headache that neither Bezos nor Amazon's current managers would want. Better then to pull the plug and start over.
“Never give up, never surrender!”
“Female” Col. Jacquelyn O’Neill coming in hot! (Probably not, just an average Lesbian.
This becomes more and more accurate. Unfortunately.
The marketers are likely seeing the dismal numbers for the recent Star Trek and Star Wars shows and avoiding funding another Sci-Fi series.
They're not buying homes, new cars, clothing, vacation packages, cosmetics, and hair products.
They also have talent and are likely to critique the hell out of your show, forcing you to hire real talent for actors, writers, the props departments, etc.
The advertisers are better off targeting divorced women or never-been-married welfare queens, with a reality television show using idiotic scripts, non-union actors, and non-union writers.
It's the fast food model versus a family owned steakhouse.
Race swapping !!!!
So you want to kill it.
Look, when they brought back "Star Trek" The Next Generation they did not sideline Roddenberry. Because, unlike the current group running things, they were not so fricking stupid it burns.
You let the guy who had the billion dollar idea lead. You change things only if the audience objects. And I mean the real audience not the "only watched reviews by some dipwit on Chi-Com" audience. And even then you look it over carefully. Because this was the guy with the billion dollar idea. See where he might be going before you start sticking your fingers in.
You won the thread!
I agree I wanna get because the original producers were not that woke Enough
Good plots, characters, and storylines are what draws an audience. In addition, Amazon’s distribution model is primarily subscription based, not advertising based. That said, I get your point, because Amazon ultimately wants audiences for their shows so as to maintain their subscriptions.
Even worse, over the last ten or fifteen years, science fiction has gone woke, alienating a substantial slice of their traditional young male following.
WokeGate Academy

U just know what will come of this...
