The show was first announced with a series order in November 2025. It hailed from writer, executive producer, and showrunner Martin Gero, who was a writer on 'Stargate SG-1' and 'Stargate: Atlantis' early in his career.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero's take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise's already dedicated fanbase.
Still seeking that elusive mOdErn aUdiEnce! Instead, Amazon is thinking of handing the series to "someone who does not have history with it and would give it a fresh new perspective."

It’s being done in the UK. That might be the problem:

Of course they'll ruin the franchise. The original was the best. Now they'll have some woke actress using the Stargate to frolic on a planet with black Nubian lesbians, who will be brought to Earth to "teach" white Earthlings "truth".

“Fresh new perspective”.....for “modern audiences” no doubt. That means the lead characters will need to be Black, nose ringed, purple haired, transgender, vegetarian, communists. They’ll visit alien worlds inhabited by evil White Men whom they will need to overcome every week.

In addition to homosexual characters, the series had characters using pairs of magic stones that allowed users to swap minds into each other's bodies - which then of course had same sex coupling, well ...because Hollywood.
Might be the problem there - not enough writers with blue hair and pig rings in their noses. You have to have "representation" these days.
I want Amazon executives to look and study the poor reception to The Acolyte, Star Trek Academy, and Willow. Don’t do this and rehire Martin Gero.
The original shows were Canadian.
I was not paying attention in 2022, because I only recently discovered Amazon took over (merged with???) Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM). As if that industry and the economy could not do well unless the behemoth Amazon was running another country.
We have the original series on DVD and are slowly working our way through it. I don’t know what a “fresh new perspective” would add to it.
