Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stole the show at a recent congressional hearing with two jars of brown water.
Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) explained that the dirty water had come from Morgan County, Ga., where a Meta data center is allegedly tainting the water of local residents.
It was an image perfectly suited to driving the intensifying opposition to data centers in that it was photogenic, easy to understand — and misleading.
According to reporting in the New York Times last year, the water problem has affected four homes in the vicinity of the data center, not the entire county, as AOC implied.
It stands to reason that the construction of the data center disturbed the private wells of these homes (the problems started when Meta broke ground), but that could happen with any construction project.
As a gesture of goodwill, Meta should replace the wells.
But the PR damage has already been done.
The growing animus to data centers is as irrational as the campaign to stop nuclear power, which had considerable success, to our detriment, to this day.
At least nuclear power has had real accidents, although the one in the United States, Three Mile Island, was ultimately of trifling significance.

“Stole the show.” Sounds correct.
Have you ever heard of anyone running a boiler using continuous infeed of cold water? No. It would never come up to steam. If it did come up to steam, it would explode when well or municipal water entered the system.
We are the dumbest population on this planet.
There’s a concerted and probably coordinated effort to smear those who are opposed to Hyperscale data centers in their backyard....with the commie stink.
Big money is obviously driving it.
Love that dirty water...........
Name a data center that uses boilers for anything.
Also there are few data centers that use closed loop water cooling due to increased operating costs.
Has anyone ever heard of Muddy Waters.? If you mix earth and water together you may get watery mud. And if this is a new development attributed to the construction of data centers then how did that guy from a long time ago get the name.
Probably the skank’s bath water. Maybe she can try and sell it to all those conservatives that allegedly want to date Mr. Ed’s Ketamine-induced sister; then use the proceeds to clean the alleged data center output.
Oh I’ve heard of Muddy Waters all right...... But I was referring to the song by The Standells.....Dirty Water.
No. It’s way more expensive to circulate untreated, unfiltered, and non adjusted water to cool machines and electronics, and dump it back out as effluent. You do that and in six months your facility will be destroyed. Most waters from the ground source are liquid chalk. Most surface waters exponentially build biofilms that choke the whole system off, incapable of exchanging heat.
Boiler water management is exactly the same as cooling systems water treatment. Ph, solids, biological, hardness, etc.....Why would you spend a million dollars a month to treat water to only dump it back out as wastewater? Jeeze....
“ Also there are few data centers that use closed loop water cooling due to increased operating costs.”
Every one I ever worked on used closed loop systems. That was most of the ones in the Midwest. I helped design over 20 of them.

Data centers are an abomination, they will bring on the Abomination of Desolation. A control grid that should not exist in a Constitutional country, where the people are Sovereigns of their own lives.
Replace “data centers” with “fracking”. Except for fire coming out of faucets, which was suspect, does it sound familiar? Fracking never stopped and we are still here.
She did go to Boston University.
Frustrated women...
“ Every one I ever worked on used closed loop systems. That was most of the ones in the Midwest. I helped design over 20 of them.”
Thank you for a moment of sanity.
I am nowhere near a Kumbaya moment with any democrap, but it’s not just the left opposed to the destruction these “data centers” are causing.
Those of us on the right side who want answers and solutions to the pollution of our waters, soaring electric bills, and constant 100 decibel hum coming from these nightmares are not going to be goaded or misguided into accepting it because someone on the left is also opposed.
And NO ONE - NO ONE! has yet given any good reason why we need these AI temples to be built by the thousands all of the sudden.
What the F are they for?
