Spanberger Advances The Soft Coup Against America
American Thinker ^ | 24 May, 2026 | Marly Hornik

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is advancing quickly among Democrats, but the Constitution itself has the tools for defeating it.

Advancing the latest “progressive” scheme to upend our Constitution and make the people serve the government, Governor Abigail Spanberger has signed a bill forcing Virginia to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC). This ruse to overturn the Electoral College, a critical safeguard that ensures equal presidential representation for all Americans, is now just 48 votes away from national implementation.

The coalition seeks to force the presidential selection to be decided by popular vote alone. This would favor Democrats in two important ways, which is why Spanberger has speedily signed on. First, controlling the vote in America’s most densely populated cities would be a near-guaranteed national victory. Replete with Tammany Hall-style power dynamics and political horse-trading, these cities are already Democrat strongholds.

Second, with the SAVE America Act stalled, Democrats will keep peddling the lie that voter ID disenfranchises minorities, while flooding election offices everywhere possible with mail-in ballots of uncertain origin.

The NPVIC says that states collectively holding at least 270 Electoral College votes must pass laws assigning their Electoral College votes to the popular vote winner. As of now, 18 states and the District of Columbia have done this, for a total of 222 votes. None require photo ID at any point in the voting process, and all went for Kamala Harris.

According to the coalition website, “Six additional states with 65 electoral votes (Arizona, Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) are especially promising places for obtaining the 48 electoral votes needed before 2028.”

With the coalition falling hard on political lines, the situation is troubling. All six of their targeted states have gubernatorial elections this November

I think you’ve got it, Ancesthntr. As it is now, D cheating in one big state affects only that state’s electoral votes.

But under the Compact it would slop over and affect the whole nation.

“She’s never read the Constitution.”

Oh, she knows the Constitution very well. She just regards it as an obstacle.

Can’t Congress disallow it, as it is a _______ which can be banned by Congress?

Yes, Congress can effectively ban or invalidate interstate compacts, primarily because the U.S. Constitution's Compact Clause (Article I, Section 10) grants Congress supreme authority over state agreements.

Some additional reasons on opposition to a national popular vote:

1) In a very close election, lawsuits could challenge election results anywhere in the country in any precinct. This would delay the electoral votes of every state in the compact, basically creating chaos.

2) Any type of regional natural disaster or hardship (floods, earthquake, blizzard, wildfires, etc) that serve to diminish turnout, could be used to say that voters in one region were underrepresented, and justify sending the vote to the House who would likely just follow party lines.

3) Any type of national popular vote would bring into play national election standards set by law for federal offices. Such laws could be manipulated by a party in power to favor its electoral advantage nationwide.

I keep thinking that people who vote for someone like this and get burned will learn from that mistake and not just vote for the person with the “D” after their name. Looking at who California and New York folks continue to re-elect into office after their last elections that led to absolute destruction of their freedoms I doubt if anything will change.

The Rs, if they are actually serious about winning should be working at the state level to abandon the winner-take-all EV system and implement the count by congressional district system.

What happened to this ‘compact’ in the 2024 election? All the lefty states that joined this farcical “compact” were remarkably silent about it after Trump garnered a higher popular vote total than Ms. Giggles McWordsalad.

She’s never read the Constitution.

I suspect she has read it. It's just that she regards it as an antiquated document with no place in modern life and should thus be ignored, IMHO.

Candidates wouldn’t even bother with fly-over country, they’d concentrate their campaigns in heavily populated blue cities, where the vote fraud is easiest - but they wouldn’t even have to do that.

As the old saw goes:

“Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner”

Without the Electoral College Bill Clinton would have lost in 1992.
