A new study found that when you lose your virginity may impact how well you age later in life, including outcomes like frailty and misery in older adulthood.
“Our findings suggest that the timing of first sexual intercourse may be connected to aging through multiple psychological, behavioral and disease-related pathways,” first author Kaixian Wang said in a press release.
They found that those with genetic signals tied to earlier loss of virginity tended to have less favorable aging-related outcomes, including higher frailty and poorer longevity-related measures.

“Frailty index, miserableness, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) appeared to play especially important roles,” Wang said. In other words, if there is a link between earlier sexual experiences and worse aging, these four factors — physical weakness, poorer mental health, lung disease often associated with smoking and ADHD-related traits tied to impulsivity — appear to be the strongest factors behind it.

Same. My husband was the one and only one who caught it...after we were married.
That might hold true for guys, but I don’t think it does for women. I think it 6 best to get married as early as feasible for that reason. Waiting until 30 is crazy.
great
A younger loss of virginity might be tied to greater risk taking and that might lead to other health-risking behaviors
No wonder we have so many men posting “not guilty”. They’re hooked before they’re even out of middle school.
EArlier or later?
That’s likely due to their melanin interfering with vitamin d production in less sunny climes. That leads to the medical issues you note.
Only twice?
“I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.”
I would say that when you lost your virginity, if you lost it early, is probably tied to being secure within the family.
The study looked at common, underlying psychological and behavioral factors that explain, at least partially, the genetics of both early sexuality and poor health trajectories. The strongest factors explaining the correlation being physical weakness, poorer mental health, ADHD-related traits (such as impulsivity), and lung diseases associated with early smoking. Early puberty + behavioral/psychological.
Age of virginity loss is also only about 25 percent genetic. No one is claiming a loss of virginity gene or that the connection is directly caused by the sexual event itself.
It’s all about your look that call the shots about it.
One suspects differences in diet have a large impact, as well.
While it’s easy to see this as mostly correlation, there probably is some moderate causation.
There’s a higher maternal death rate for girls who become pregnant at or shortly after puberty, and such pregnancies can degrade health otherwise (an undersized girl doesn’t carry to term well, can suffer gestational diabetes with long-term adverse effect, and abortion has health risks too). Early sexual activity directly increases STD rates, and HPV (cervical cancer), AIDS and syphilis can kill you directly and dramatically can increase all-cause morbidity and mortality, while STDs that are generally not fatal (gonorrhea, herpes) are nevertheless chronic and increase all-cause morbidity and mortality from the degradation of overall health.
Well, if you read the whole thing, it sounds like they tried to factor out those things.
An ex post facto study can never show causation. It may rule out a cause but it can never show a cause and effect relationship.
“Absurd”
Sorry, you missed my sarcasm with the last name.

I didn’t marry until my late 50s.
All of a sudden I had all this wonderful Rodney Dangerfield humor to use. But my wife...she wouldn’t understand.
“What do they consider early?”
Depends on who you were. In the early days the daughters of the poor serfs were more open season for the rich. So as long as they could outrun their aggressor, they were chaste. The rich were treated differently in many occasions. And some countries considered family sex to be appropriate. So that adds to the mix and may cause a younger promiscuity.

The tricky part is knowing when to duck.
