President Donald Trump is championing the prospect of putting the kibosh on twice-annual clock changes by making daylight saving time permanent.
A bill to make daylight saving time permanent has been folded into a larger measure that the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced in a 48-1 vote on Thursday.
"Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent! This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive!" Trump wrote in a Thursday Truth Social post.
"It’s time that people can stop worrying about the ‘Clock,’ not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production. It will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party. Take it! We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day — And who can be against that — This is an easy one!" the president declared.
Rep. Vern Buchanan's, R-Fla., office noted in a Thursday press release that "The Sunshine Protection Act was included as a provision within an Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute (AINS) to the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, which was marked up and sent to the House floor by the House Energy and Commerce Committee today."
The push is actually bipartisan.
"The legislation has 32 bipartisan cosponsors in the House, and Senate companion legislation (S. 29) introduced by Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) has 18 bipartisan cosponsors," Buchanan's release noted.

They end up eventually
In the dark regardless
Same here. I loved having more daylight in the evenings since I was young. Gave the neighborhood kids more time to play outside.
That's never changed -- I still enjoy getting out and walking around my favorite places when the sun is still shining. Or having dinner on an outdoor patio with some daylight lingering.
It could've been a good bi-partisan issue in the past.
But with today's Democrats it's sure to be a mark of double Hitler with extra cheese. You know, because Trump said it.
Trump is for it so that ends the Dem support.
I can go with that. Just turn it back 1/2 hour this November and then leave it alone.
And then in the Fall, when it gets cooler and Hallowe’en is coming, it just suits to return to Standard Time.
Changing the clocks always symbolizes the change in the season to me.
No the vote was 48-1
Georgia just made daylight savings time all year round. I can’t decide how I feel about it.
If we have to keep one vs the other, I’d prefer standard.
Standard time!
𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴?
As long as you’re not black you should be able to hear a distinctive chirping sound coming from your smoke alarm. Also you should be able to acquire a driver’s license, and operate a computer.
DST is like cutting a foot off the top of your blanket and sewing on the end to make it longer.
Sure, but they screwed that up, too. Instead of changing the clocks to Standard Time before Halloween, they now change them in November after Halloween with the last modification to the time system.
We are on DST most of the year anyway.
It’s about time,
It’s about space,
About strange people in the strangest place.
I prefer year-round standard time as we have where I live in Arizona. If you want to spend time outdoors in the evening in the summer, it’s much more comfortable if the sun has already set.
Well, I didn’t like that; but it’s still before the big holidays.
Maybe Trump wants this, too. So if he says DST, the libs and TDS'rs will screech loudly. Then he will give in to them for standard time.
For me, and the bees, that extra hour of daylight gives them an extra hour to forage and that means more honey!
There is no “extra” hour.
Although I’d rather we just stayed with standard time, if we could just stop the absurdity of throwing everyone’s internal clocks off with permanent DST, I’d be less grouchy.
