My Sunshine Protection Act has passed out of the House Commerce, 48-1

Big Vote today (48-1!) in the Energy and Commerce Committee on a Bill including The Sunshine Protection Act, which will be making Daylight Saving Time Permanent! This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive! The House will be attaching The Sunshine Protection Act to ''The Highway Bill." Great work by Troy Nehls, and all of the Members who voted, as well, for Railway Safety. I am going to work very hard to see The Sunshine Protection Act signed into Law. It's time that people can stop worrying about the ''Clock," not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production. It will also be a very nice WIN for the Republican Party. Take it! We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day - And who can be against that - This is an easy one! Thank you to everyone who supported this important Bill, and especially Chairman Brett Guthrie and Vern Buchanan.

President DONALD J. TRUMP

I don’t care which one it is. I just don’t like switching back and forth twice a year.

Here in southern Arizona in the summertime, I’d rather have the sun already down if I’m going to spend time outdoors in the evening. I’ll be up at first light anyway, since that’s really the only time to do yardwork, go for a walk, or whatever before it gets hot for the day.

Not too bad so far this spring. Only one day over 110 at our place, and it’s barely hit 100 in the last week. That won’t last. Oh, well, October through February are the best times to be here.

Even when I lived in DST states, I wouldn’t always change the clocks, just remembered that everyone else was an hour different.

Great for President Trump if it passes. No more Daylight Savings time changes twice a year.

Same time zones all year long. No clock changes.

It makes little difference if it is DST or ST. It does not change.

A good win. Not huge but about 80% of the country wants to eliminate the twice a year changes.

Dropping support over this seems a bit overreacting, eh?

No

No it won’t. Farmers hate DST.

The extra hour of sunlight should give a boost to the agricultural sector.

Sarcasm right?? No extra hour of sunlight is involved.

“Only the government would believe that you can cut a foot off the top
of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and get a longer blanket.””

Yes! I’ve been a proponent of permanent DST since the idea was first raised.

If the president signs this into law, he will have effectively ended my support of him. He is backtracking on another promised he made to eliminate pDST and is now endorsing it.

As I recall he just told Congress to send him a bill ending the changing of clocks twice a year. I don't recall him being for or against one or the other.

“The extra hour of sunlight should give a boost to the agricultural sector.”

absolutely ... and no one can object to an extra hour of sunlight every day for agriculture ... plus, that extra daily hour of growth is good for helping to soak up more of that toxic CO2 that’s destroying the planet ... overall, permanent DST is a big plus any way you look at it!

I partly agree wi the article poster. Permanent DST will save daylight? Longer days? Has Trump finally lost his mind?

Noon should be when the sun is highest, not a hour later. When days are shortest, My niece will be be waiting for the bus in the dark. DST serves no purpose at all, except for greenie tyrants talking points.

Here in NYS...it means kids will be going to school in the dark.

Daylight savings time was an "invention". A stupid one at that.

Climate change BY MAN was an invention, too.

He is backtracking on another promised he made to eliminate pDST and is now endorsing it.

He is NOT backtracking. He is mainly against CHANGING the time. The hour you make it is arbitrary. Once upon a time, individual towns had local time based on the position of the sun in that location. Once you had train time tables, that became unmanageable so time zones came in.

I am in Arizona. Outside of Indian reservations, we do not follow DST. If this gets passed, we would be grouped in with California for time purposes. It doesn't really matter, It is all arbitrary. The point is to get rid of the 2x/year monkeying with all the clocks. This is a huge good for computer systems, that all work on keeping time.
