The price didn’t just go up. The product went down.
This is shrinkflation on steroids.
The cost increased. The value didn’t.
BRIEFING
Grant here. Shrinkflation is everywhere nowadays. It's actually becoming so common that we seem to just almost be throwing up our hands and accepting it. Well, for the most part.... Because this latest video showing what an absolute rip-off the classic McDonald's sundae has become has people pretty darn heated. Let’s break it down.
A popular X video shows a woman holding her obnoxiously tiny McDonald’s hot fudge sundae. I mean, it's comically small. It looks like something you would give to a four-year-old child, not a grown adult.
And what's worse? It costs $4.
Yeah, $4 for a cup of vanilla soft serve with some crappy "chocolate" sauce on top.
SOURCE
The McDonald’s Hot Fudge Sundae used to only cost 99 cents
American shows what it looks like now, and they have resisted the price to $4
It looks much smaller, they don’t fill it all the way and it no longer comes with a pack of chopped peanuts
But it’s now 4x the price…. pic.twitter.com/h4w89HPXHo— Wall Street Apes (@WallStreetApes) March 30, 2026
DEBRIEFING
Really, at this point, you're better off heading to the store and buying a tub of vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Honestly, the quality would be better, and you could probably make like 10 sundaes instead of the measly little plastic cup of dairy goo McDonald's is trying to peddle.
This is shrinkflation on a whole other level, and it's an extreme that makes most of us think, "What's the point?"
What is the point nowadays of going out and getting a meal if this is the type of experience you're going to have?
We've reached the point where everything feels like a rip-off, and the only way we can start to move the needle back to normality is just to flat-out stop supporting businesses that are pushing shrinkflation to this extreme.
NOW YOU KNOW
Companies push shrinkflation because they can.
Yes! I can remember arguing with a guy about raising minimum wage to $15/hr. Told him to enjoy paying $10 for a Big Mac. He just laughed at me, but I wasn't far off.
I make my own hot fudge sundae’s at home. Chocolate ice cream, Hershey’s hot fudge topping heated in the jar in the microwave, piles of whipped cream, and Spanish peanuts on top.
McDonald’s burgers have always sucked but for some strange reason they do not to most. Whataburger is still good. Oddly I prefer going to Schlocky for their original that is not a burger, it is still good.
I only liked their sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwiches and hash browns, but I never got to have them until they started offering breakfast all day. Then when the scamdemic rolled around, they stopped serving breakfast all day. I don't eat the rest of their crap, and I don't go to any other fast food restaurants, other than Arby's, and I only buy their chocolate milkshakes which are pretty good.
I like the occasional milkshake too, just not chocolate. Vanilla rocks.
Their burgers look like they’ve been wadded up in the glove compartment of a car for a few days and their coffee isn’t nearly as good as it use to be. To top it off, the lids do not fit the coffee cups securely and everything spills all over. It’ not the employee. It’s the d@@n lids.
My friend Mary told me yesterday that I llook awful. FAR TOO SKINNY. So I’m working at working up an appetite
12:37 a.m., Daisy cat wants more food, guess I’ll join her in the kitchen.
🙄.......................
Sugar, which used to be sold in 5 lb bags is now sold in 4 lb bags...........
Hot FUN in the Summertime
(for those who actually want to look for it)
Try the Big Arch burger, I thought it was very good.
Recommended it to several of my coworkers and they all liked it.
“McDonalds has the best coffee around”
Watch it, pal. This is an UPSCALE forum, so we NEVER say anything good about McDonald’s. We don’t want to send the wrong message here.
I agree ... McDonald’s does have the best coffee ...
“I can never get a hot hamburger at Mcdonald’s and someone told me to order the Quarter Pounder because they’re always made fresh. Sure enough, that’s true.”
You too? Look, I’m the official Karen here when it comes to policing comments regarding McDonald’s. As I noted in my prior post, we are an upscale forum and thus we DO NOT say anything good about McDonald’s here.
(by the way, you are correct, also the Quarter Pounders only ingredients are beef, salt, and black pepper)
Why would anyone try to find any value from anything at McDonald’s in the first place? They’ve been nothing but a rip off for decades.

I might recommend ordering from the kiosk, McDouble or a Double cheeseburger with “light salt” when you go to customize the burger. That should force them to make a fresh patty, and I’ve found that it tastes better that way.
You gotta' be kidding, there's nothing worth calling "food" at McDonald's.
McDonald’s has a different audience in each country.
In the USA it is cheap eats.
In Japan or parts of Europe, they have gone for a family friendly, clean atmosphere.
McDonald’s hot fudge is people!
I used to get the Filet o fish with extra tarter sauce. Loved it! A Big Mac is half the size it once was. Ever since I saw a special on how they make their “food” I won’t go near a McDonald’s
