The United Arab Emirates said Monday that Iran launched missile and drone attacks against the country, putting at risk the already shaky ceasefire between the United States and Tehran.
The White House did not immediately respond when asked whether the reported attacks, which led the UAE to activate its missile alert system for the first time since the ceasefire began on April 8, would violate that truce.
Stock market indices fell, and oil prices rose on news of the attack, raising investors’ fears that the war’s impact on the global economy could be exacerbated or prolonged.
“The UAE’s air defenses are currently dealing with missile attacks and incoming drones from Iran,” Abu Dhabi’s Defence Ministry said in a translated post on its official X account.
The ministry said that “the sounds heard in various parts of the country are the result of the UAE air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones.”
In an earlier post, the ministry said that three “loitering munitions” were “intercepted over the country’s territorial waters,” while a fourth missile “fell into the sea.”
The UAE is located on the southern rim of the Persian Gulf, a major chokepoint for the shipment of oil.
Iran’s state media did not immediately confirm the attacks.
An alert issued to phones in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Monday evening local time warned people, “Due to the current situation, potential missile threats, immediately seek a safe place in the closest secure building.”

Despite repeated assurances that the new leadership is more malleable, there's been no evidence of their acquiescence, much less surrender.
[WTI up $3.95 currently]
I guess Iran needs to get their asses pummeled into the stone ages after all.
Not like they have much of a choice at this point. Once they can no longer keep their own people suppressed, they're going to be killed anyways, so they have chosen to fight to the death.
I say, oblige them immediately. Put their economy out of action for a couple of decades and let them get cleaned up from the inside out.
I thought we had utterly destroyed their munitions factories and weapons stockpiles. Where are they getting these UAVs and missiles to launch?
Does anyone even know who “the new leadership” is?
Just thought I’d share an antidote to your little fear porn post:
US sinks 6 Iranian small boats as violence flares amid ceasefire
U.S. Forces sank six Iranian small boats near the Strait of Hormuz amid President Donald Trump’s “Project Freedom” on Monday.
U.S. Central Command announced the engagement in a press call with reporters, saying Iran’s military capability has been “dramatically degraded.”
CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said on the call that Iran historically has deployed “between 20 and 40 small boats” when harassing vessels in the strait.
“Today, we saw just six, and eliminated them quickly,” Cooper said.
“We have an enormous amount of capability and firepower concentrated in and around the Strait, including 864 Apache and MH 60 Seahawk helicopters used just this morning to eliminate six Iranian small boats threatening commercial shipping,” he added.

These Muslim “armies” are undisciplined. They operate like the Imperial Japanese Army did in WW2. Junior officers disobey orders and attack anyway when ordered to stand down. Even if Tehran orders cease fire, local hotheads will attack anyhow. Allah told them to.
Since we have a such a stellar record of success, we should put our own nation-building experts to work on constructing the Iran of our dreams. Like we did in Iraq and Vietnam.
I would be happy to see it all blown to hell where it belongs.
UAE and other Gulf states need to pull the gloves off and call Iran what it is in the UN and do something about them on their own. We need to be able to stop being their uncompensated mercenaries.
“fear porn”
There are your opinions, my opinions, and the facts.
Fact 1: The UAE’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning the “treacherous” Iranian missile and drone attacks.
Fact 2: A major fire has broken out in an oil industry port in Fujairah, one of the United Arab Emirates. The Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, the largest port and oil storage area in the Emirates, has been attacked by an Iranian drone.
Fact 3: WTI is currently selling at $105, a three dollar gain.
YES
Weird. UEA says its withdrawing from OPEC
Then Iran attacks it.
Almost like someone told Iran to attack the UAE....
