Democratic Virginia state Sen. Lamont Bagby claimed Thursday that watching “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Waltons” as a child taught him about rural America.
(snip)
“And listen, I almost took issue with the other side saying that we don’t understand [rural America],” Bagby said during the floor debate. “But I grew up watching ‘The Waltons,’ I grew up with Opie [the son of a sheriff played by Andy Griffith], I even watched the ‘Dukes of Hazzard.’ I think I know a little bit about rural America.”

Low-IQ Lamont, the product of a soft-headed education by proxy. His brain marinated in laugh tracks and moralizing scripts, emerging convinced that Opie Taylor and John-Boy Walton equipped him to lecture actual rural Virginians about their own lives. This is peak Beltway (or in this case, Richmond) arrogance—the urbanite who “gets” the heartland because he once saw Boss Hogg get outsmarted by a Dodge Charger with a Confederate flag on it.
America is not going to survive this kind of stupid. But, people will vote and cheat votes for this guy because they are also stupid.
A country boy will survive though. Hank Jr said so. Bet this fella never leared that.
I know what yoy're talking about. I once by chance worked with a guy who was from a rural area known to have a bit of the former (I hade family in the same region who pointed it out to me in low voices). Anyway, the dude didn't appreciate my comment about family trees looking like telephone poles in his hometown.
I think he ate Joy Reid
Thx. Title didn’t show up in search.
According to Milk Dud, everybody who lives beyond the borders of a city has a pig named Arnold and climbs a telephone pole to make a call.
He forgot Little House on the Prairie so he’s a joke
Anyone remember the British WW2 series World at War ?
The series is available at Internet Archive at the link.
I bet Lamont hasn’t watched that .
You do know that “The Art of the Deal” was ghost written by Mr Haney
Then he just might understand rural America.
All hat and NO cattle.
It didn’t take long for Virginia to go from strong red, to red, to purple, and it’s almost all blue now. You know Dems are trying this same strategy for Texas and NC, SC
I understand black urban folks because I watched reruns of “Good Times” as a kid.
I watched “the Jeffersons” so I know all about the Black community too - movin on up to the East Side...
I moved to rural West TN five years ago. The people here are absolutely wonderful.
If this Virginia State Senator is an idiot, then what are the people who elected him?!?
Yeah, it wasn’t the same exact title, so that makes sense. Funny that these people think they know what something or someone is like because they saw it on a TV show.
Catherine Bach played Daisy Duke on “Dukes of Hazzard”.
Barbara Bach was in “Force 10 from Navarone” and “The Spy Who Loved Me” and is married to Ringo Starr.
