Democrat Says He Understands Rural America Because He Watched Classic Shows Like ‘Waltons,’ ‘Dukes Of Hazzard’
Daily Caller ^

Democratic Virginia state Sen. Lamont Bagby claimed Thursday that watching “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Waltons” as a child taught him about rural America.

(snip)

“And listen, I almost took issue with the other side saying that we don’t understand [rural America],” Bagby said during the floor debate. “But I grew up watching ‘The Waltons,’ I grew up with Opie [the son of a sheriff played by Andy Griffith], I even watched the ‘Dukes of Hazzard.’ I think I know a little bit about rural America.”

I watched Star Trek. Guess that makes me an astronaut.

This would be funny if it weren't in relation to a blatantly criminal action by Democrats in Virginia, and the fact that this guy is 'elected'. And I'm beginning to doubt the latter.

Well, if he didn’t watch Beverly Hillbillies or Green Acres, then his education is incomplete.

I learned all about rural America by watching Newhart and the antics of the Darryl Brothes.

People like this would never be elected to anything, if we actually had real elections in this country.

The man represents Henrico and Richmond, and he’s out here claiming kinship with the hollows and hollers via reruns. It’s like saying you understand the jungle and black people because you watched Tarzan on Saturday mornings. Pure, weapons-grade delusion, the kind that makes you want to gargle cheap bourbon just to wash the taste out of your mouth. These are the people steering the ship: TV babies who think Mayberry was a documentary and Hazzard County a policy manual.

Just goes to show how out of touch these democrats are. Rural America was never like anything from any of those shows. It was hard work for little pay if you even found work, or you were drinking “shine” all day and living on welfare. Incest was not unheard of, marriage at 14. There are some wealthy people in Rural America, but they don’t really associate with their neighbors. I could be wrong, but I’ve spent some time in the 60’s in very rural Minnesota. It seemed like the people who were in their 40’s looked like they were in their 60’s.

You know, maybe the ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ does have some accuracy: the Left does conduct government a lot like Boss Hogg, or the Jay Hamilton character from ‘Walking Tall’.

I learned about blacks watching classic shows like The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. And then I learned about Bill Cosby and Will Smith. He must have learned about Communists and pedophiles from the Walton’s’ grandfather, Will Geer, and joined them.
