S&P 500 reaches all-time high as investors stay optimistic about Middle East developments

Wall Street's major averages advanced on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 (SP500) achieving a record high as investors awaited good news on the U.S.-Iran conflict front while parsing more bank and financial earnings.

The benchmark S&P 500 (SP500) made new intraday highs and was last +0.5%.

The heavy-tech Nasdaq Composite (COMP:IND) was last +1.1%, aided by Broadcom (AVGO), +3%, as it entered into a three-year partnership with Meta Platforms (META) to develop its AI chips and deploy them into data centers.

Nonetheless, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) was -0.3%.

Over in the bond market, the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield (US10Y) was 4 basis points higher at 4.29%, while the 2-year Treasury yield (US2Y) rose 2 basis points to 3.78%.

“The 2-year Treasury yield (US2Y) fell below 3.75% today (the upper bound of the fed funds rate) for the first time since March 17th as the likelihood of a rate cut by year-end has increased,” said Collin Martin, head of fixed income research and strategy at Schwab Research. “The outlook is highly uncertain, and there's a lot of time between now and the December meeting. For now, we expect the Fed to remain on hold for the next several meetings.”

On geopolitics, President Donald Trump hinted that negotiations with Iran could take place “over the next two days” in Pakistan. This was after the U.S. announced a move towards a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Reports surfaced that the U.S. and Iran may have made significant progress towards a framework agreement to end the war, according to U.S. officials.

Crude oil futures (CL1:COM) were higher at $91, while Brent (CO1:COM) was at $95 per barrel.

On the economy, U.S. export prices climbed faster than U.S. import prices in March, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Also, the Empire State Manufacturing Index rose 11 points to 11.0 in April, vs. the -2.0 consensus, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported.

The Dims will try to tell everyone to ignore their 401K balances and trust the constant doom and gloom message that only the rich are benefitting.

It is amazing how quickly the stock market has recovered. It is truly astounding. Financial markets have declared the war will be over very, very shortly (the next week or two at the most) and Trump has won.

Gas prices will be coming down, but very slowly,,,as it will take a while for the distortions to work themselves out.

The Middle East is changing for the better. The Arab World wants to make money, they don’t care about Israel anymore. It’s only the Iranians keeping the Jew Hate going in that part of the world.
