A North Carolina woman played a prank on her convicted felon boyfriend that made him believe she cheated on him - but it backfired horribly after he took her seriously.
Shyhied Ivey, 20, shot at a packed car with five people inside on April 5 in Charlotte after his girlfriend, Nevaeh Covington, decided to pretend that she was romantically involved with another man, according to an affidavit reviewed by the Daily Mail.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to Columbus Circle after being dispatched over a report of assault with a deadly weapon just after midnight.
Covington told police that she and four others - Gernala Covington, Quimya James, Damion Rann, and Nadiya Cousart-Thompson - were at Camp North End, a local shopping mall, getting food together earlier that night, according to records.
She and Rann then decided to 'play a prank' on Ivey, her boyfriend of five months, which involved Rann calling Ivey and 'pretend to be cheating' with Covington.
After relaying the message to Ivey, the five friends drove away, but soon realized they were being followed by Ivey in another car, as Covington had shared her location with him through Find My iPhone, she told police.
An irate Ivey, who was arrested six times in 2024, then called Covington and started 'driving recklessly attempting to get them to pull over' while appearing to fire a handgun into the air multiple times.

That was no prank.
Had a black co-worker with an MBA, Div I basketball player etc. and he was shot if the thigh by a .22. Asked him why when I visited him at the hospital and he said he has smiled at someone else’s girl at a party. Remember him saying the guy went and got a gun, pointed at his chest and said by the Grace of God the guy pointed at his leg and fired.
His dad had made all kinds of sacrifices for him to go to a private prep school & he lived in the hood after college because he didn’t want his friends thinking he was uppity.
That’s not something to prank about, even with a normal man.
Who in their right mind would think that it would be funny to prank someone by pretending to be cheating on a boyfriend or spouse? And it doesn’t matter what color they are. I know white people who might seriously hurt someone if they thought they were cheating. In the early 2000s, there were a series of “prank” shows on channels like MTV. Some of the “pranks” were disturbing, with one resulting in the “pranked” person assaulting a child and another staging a fake arrest that traumatized a girl. People really lose their judgment when it comes to pranks and it results in tragedies.
