He’s Zo-ing back on his word.
Many of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s lofty campaign promises have already bit the dust 100 days in, as he makes a U-turn or scales them back almost beyond recognition.
His improbable path from democratic socialist also-ran to victory in 2025’s election came in no small part from the sweeping, voter-pleasing pledges.
While his marquee platforms of universal child care, fast and free buses and a rent freeze clearly captured voters’ imaginations, he made a slew of other promises that would quickly — and significantly — reshape New York City, including:
City-owned grocery stores
Mamdani’s early viral promise to open city-run grocery stores has all but disappeared from the conversation during his first 100 days in office.
The pitch that candidate Mamdani made repeated was that five grocery stores — one in each borough — could sell food to hard-working New Yorkers at wholesale prices if the city covered rent and property taxes.
But no such city-owned grocery stores have opened.
Instead, Mamdani has just proposed $70 million in new funding for the city’s Economic Development Corporation to scout potential locations for and build the five stores.
Department of Community Safety
Mamdani’s much-hyped major promise to launch a new city “Department of Community Safety” — with a $1.1 billion dollar price tag — that would have social workers respond to non-violent 911 calls instead of NYPD cops has fallen short of its lofty ambitions.
Hizzoner so far has just rolled out a “Mayor’s Office of Community Safety” — a lite version of his original promise with just two staffers and a murky $260 million budget.

the carrots are a mirage
the stick is not
Articles like this are meaningless. Broke his promises to who? We all knew this was going to happen. The New York Post was screaming that Mamdani was a Communist while he was running. We all knew it too. We all knew he was lying. And his supporters knew he was lying too. Have you every talked to any of them? They are hardcore Communists too. They want the Revolution. The election was a low turnout election but the turnout was weighted toward Mamdani supporters. There probably were some low information voters who were duped by his smile and who were turned off by Cuomo’s massive baggage. Perhaps they believed the broken promises but they are a small minority. There are probably a large group of NYC citizens who either didn’t vote for him or who didn’t vote who aren’t happy but too bad for them. They have four years to put up with the new Cultural Revolution or to pack up and leave.
MACO
NYC voters despising the freedoms of their forefathers, get played by Islamist and Marxists conspiring together to enslave their children.
Reminds me of when those being ungrateful for what they had been given by God (freedom and Manna from Heaven) complained about it to Moses, wanting something more or better. So God let them have exactly what they asked for, until it came out of their noses.
“But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?” - Numbers 11:20
