National Beer Day
brewersassociation.org ^ | April 7, 2026

Posted on 04/07/2026 12:05:21 PM PDT by PROCON

National Beer Day commemorates the passage of the Cullen-Harrison Act, which allowed Americans to legally purchase beer and wine, capped at 3.2% by weight, for the first time since Prohibition began. The legislation took effect April 7, 1933, and set the stage for the eventual repeal of the 18th Amendment later that year, on Dec. 5, 1933.

National Beer Day is a festive celebration of brewing heritage, craft beer culture, and the freedom to raise a glass with friends and family.

It’s national beer day. It is also my birthday. I don’t know about you, but when the Cosmos talks, I listen …

Apparently, Minnesota is the only state left prohibiting beer stronger than 3.2% ABW. Just another reason to avoid the place.

The sun is over the yardarm somewhere.

A yardarm is either outermost end of a yard (the horizontal spar/pole) on a square-rigged ship. Historically, this location was used for maritime punishment, and the phrase “sun’s over the yardarm” refers to the traditional time (around 11 a.m.) when it became acceptable to have the first alcoholic beverage of the day.

“Apparently, Minnesota is the only state left prohibiting beer stronger than 3.2% ABW. “

Not entirely true..

Just a few years back stores were allowed to sell beer and wine on Sunday — all of this beer is 3.2%.

To get good beer you have always needed to go to a liquor store...

Horrid place these days.

I think Colorado doesn’t allow real beer. I remember getting stuck at the airport and got a six pack across from the hotel and I didn’t get a buzz at all. You had to get the real stuff at a liquor store.

I had rauchbier, (smoked beer) when I was stationed in Germany, very tasty and like all German beer, Strong!

Worse thing that happened in Germany is finding out German girls could out-drink me. 😂
