The U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has been accused of “God-washing” the war in Iran.
Leading a Christian worship service at the Pentagon, he prayed for "every round to find its mark" and for “overwhelming violence" against America's enemies.
During the service, which was livestreamed and attended by military personnel, Hegseth also quoted from the Psalms, saying: "I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and did not turn back till they were consumed."
Speaking to Sky News, U.S. pastor Rev Andy Campbell said the use of Scripture in conversations around the Iran war is troubling: “If you go to war and claim that God is on your side, then if you oppose war, you must be God-less”. He said he believed Mr Hegseth “wants to take people that he perceives as enemies and make them less than human.”
It comes as reports suggest the US Military Religious Freedom Foundation has received more than 200 complaints from members of the military about commanders invoking biblical rhetoric to justify involvement in the war in Iran.
Jared Huffman, chair of the Congressional Freedom Caucus, told Sky News: “Some of the more egregious examples are one from an active duty military member who alleges that their commander urged them to tell our troops that this war is all part of God's divine plan. Apparently, they referenced citations out of the book of Revelation and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.
“These biblical prophecies are being offered up to justify the war. People are being told that they need to risk their lives in order to accelerate Armageddon and live out these extreme interpretations of Scripture. The Secretary of Defence is making a concerted effort to God wash this terrible war.”
The full prayer read by Hegseth was attributed to a military chaplain: "Let every round find its mark against the enemies of righteousness and our great nation. Give them wisdom in every decision, endurance for the trial ahead, unbreakable unity, and overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy."

Question: What qualifies you to judge the humility in someone else’s prayer?
Well, that doesn’t make any sense.
So says the doubling down bot.
‘ So says the doubling down bot.’
👌
I have no doubt. But you seem to. Maybe you aren’t making yourself clear. So who is your creator?
You either believe God’s Word (the Bible) or you dont. Its not like half His Word is true and the other half is BS. God doesn’t lie.
Indeed!
I don’t understand how it isn’t clear to you.
You want to play games.
Ok.
Your creator is Beezlebub.
lol
🙄
I will say this. A person who is afraid to say what they actually believe usually doesnt believe in much of anything.

I was sure you’d bitch about it.
I’ll go play the lottery tonight.
And you lead by example. I swear all you ever do is whine, moan and bitch.
‘ I will say this. A person who is afraid to say what they actually believe usually doesnt believe in much of anything.’
Ok.
Since you fail to see the obvious.
Anyone who thinks they have a personal relationship with and knowledge of invisible and non existent spiritual entities is delusional. And if they are using as justification for killing other people, they are psychotic.
That clear it up?
🤣
Dehumanizing the enemy makes it easier to kill them, especially if you want to survive the battle. It's been that way for eons.
That's not mine to call, but if it were, I'd sure appreciate being able to read this otherwise interesting thread without his annoying troll blather.
Just sayin'....
Sure, You are not a believer.
I dont call you delusional for that. You just have no plan for anything beyond this material life.
Again, you are arguing with the wrong person. I am not going to try to convince you otherwise. I will include you in generically in prayers I have that all non-believers find Christ.
Have a good day.
‘ You just have no plan for anything beyond this material life.’
You don’t have a plan either.
You have a belief system that requires you to follow certain principles for which you will be rewarded in eternity and if you don’t, you will suffer forever.
That’s not a plan, it’s coercion based on nothing except to control you, comfort you and make you suspeptible to supporting atrocities.
From this statement, you clearly do not understand the Covenant with Christ and the impact of the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Perhaps you should learn at least the basics of Christianity before criticizing Christians.
