A large teen gathering in downtown Chicago descended into chaos Wednesday night—prompting a curfew enforcement order and intensifying the debate over how to stop repeat takeovers in the Loop.
The activity centered on State and Lake streets, where witnesses described crowds of young people running through the area, climbing on vehicles and engaging in fights.
Alderman Brian Hopkins said conditions escalated quickly before officials intervened.
In a post on X, Hopkins said the situation was "out of control" before a curfew enforcement order was issued around 10 p.m. He said the crowd began to thin out within about 40 minutes, calling the response effective.
Chicago police confirmed multiple enforcement actions tied to the gathering, including eight juvenile arrests and 24 curfew violations.
According to police, seven juveniles, ranging in age from 13 to 16, were each charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct. One of those teens, a 15-year-old boy, also had an outstanding warrant.
Another 16-year-old boy faces more serious charges, including three felony counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer, along with a misdemeanor reckless conduct charge and a citation for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.

Behavior such as this is the culmination of years of liberal social engineering that started with the welfare system, an educational system which completely failed to teach, a judicial process which fails to punish offenders in a meaningful way, parents with no moral compass, and politicians who continue to promote and profit from the chaos. It’s not just one thing and it cannot be corrected overnight if ever.

I live in Chicagoland and work in a Hospital in Chicago city limits. A lot of the blame falls on the majority race in Chicago, the whites, esp lakefront liberal single women. The Daley’s had no problem with landslides for a half of a century.
Together, Richard J. Daley and his son Richard M. Daley served a total of 43 years as mayor of Chicago. Richard J. Daley served 21 years (1955–1976), and Richard M. Daley served 22 years (1989–2011), marking the longest combined tenure of a single family in the city’s history.
Blacks are in 3rd when it comes to city limit population and falls off big in the collar counties.
But back to the city limits.

Chicago has always been highly segregated and the black population is actually falling, lots blacks moving back south. Unlike a lot of posters here that do not know the city, its no where near as blacks here in percentage as some wish it to be. The problem is the current past few mayors and no bail and the DA’s that do not punish crime. Most crime stays in the hoods and is gang on gang and few care about those. But once they congregate in nice areas they spoil it for millions. New tough leadership is needed. That said there is no way a GOP could be mayor, the last good Mayor I hate to say it was Rahm Emanual.
I have seen a few black men on videos calling out the black population for allowing trash. They are blunt and can use any words they want. And they do.

From the '60s, I fondly remember the sights, sounds and smells of that vicinity as among the classiest I had ever experienced. Bring back Mayor Daly. Never thought I'd ever say that.
It takes one or two trained, and well paid, organizers to initiate a bunch of dead-from-the-neck-up teens to start something. Those guys do not enter the target themselves; they’re gone before any cops show up.
