After complaining for years that Gen Z grads are difficult to work with, bosses are no longer all talk, no action: Now they’re rapidly firing young workers who aren’t up to scratch just months after hiring them.
The numbers are stark. According to a survey, six in 10 employers admitted they had already sacked the Gen Z workers they had hired fresh out of college.
Intelligent.com, a platform dedicated to helping young professionals navigate the future of work, surveyed nearly 1,000 U.S. business leaders. It found that the class of 2024’s shortcomings are shaping how bosses hire next—and it’s not good news for future grads.(snip)
So where is it going wrong for fresh-faced graduates?
Employers’ gripe with young people today is their lack of motivation or initiative—50% of the leaders surveyed cited that as the reason why things didn’t work out with their new hire.
Bosses also pointed to Gen Z being unprofessional, unorganized, and having poor communication skills as their top reasons for having to sack grads.
Leaders say they have struggled with the latest generation’s tangible challenges, including being late to work and meetings often, not wearing office-appropriate clothing, and using language appropriate for the workspace.
Now, more than half of hiring managers have come to the conclusion that college grads are unprepared for the world of work.

They surly do overwork the f-word. It comes at the expense of not being able to describe anything accurately and in detail. It is the mark of the illiterate.
Gen Z college students need internships, to help them learn to navigate the world of work!
And one internship is not enough!

I hear podcasts where it seems like it’s every other word. It’s so boring, I turn them off almost as soon as I’ve opened them.
I guess they don’t know many real words.
Many college graduates now are of the opinion that if not for Capitalism they wouldn’t need a job.
They don’t see why they should have to work just to have food, shelter and clothing.
Unfortunately, I’m not even exaggerating.
Unions are almost nonexistent in the private sector so that’s not the problem.
How do they think their food and shelter should be financed?
They don’t think about it at all.
It just shouldn’t be their problem.
The managers only get to interview candidates who pass the HR screens.
That was priceless!
We have a coupla GenZ new hires at my employ. Both are being given (what I think) are some special privileges that some of the millennials are getting irritated about.
As a GenXer who is a little longer in the tooth, I am not as effected. But it doesn’t seem right these noobies are getting to kind of dictate their own schedule.
I wonder how long it’ll last. My guess is not long.
They are only there to collect a pay check.

Although the Soviet Union dissolved, the popular joke is still told all around the world (even in the West), especially in low-paying jobs.

My son (30) works in construction and he says the Gen Z problem doesn’t exist in the trades. He says the worst thing they will do is call in sick on the first day of rifle season.

It would appear these pampered dopes need a significantly more in depth sit down on the expectations before actually hiring them.
