Pete Hegseth spent $100,000 on a piano, $2 million on Alaskan King Crab, $7 million on lobster tail, $15 million on steak, $120,000 on ice cream machines, and $12,000 on fruit basket stands… JUST IN SEPTEMBER! (But, tell me again how Somali day care centers are the problem.)

@grok did Pete by a $100K piano? $2M on crabs? $15M on steaks? $120K on ice cream? And $12K on fruit? All in September?

No, Secretary Hegseth didn't personally buy these. Per OpenTheBooks analysis of DoD data, these were Pentagon-wide contracts in Sept 2025 (end of fiscal year "use-it-or-lose-it" spending spike to $93B total): $98k Steinway piano for Air Force chief of staff's official residence; $2M Alaskan king crab, $6.9M lobster tail, $15.1M ribeye steak, $124k ice cream machines, ~$12.5k fruit basket stands—mostly bulk for base dining/facilities. Standard gov pattern, not unique to him.

I would love to know how much money they've wasted since the CIA began in 1947. They used to have a blank check to conduct their operations with. Probably think they still do.

I spent a lot of years in government budgeting for facilities and he didn’t have the say in it.

If you understand the CACRL it is a listing of possible property that the facility can procure. But Hegseth doesn’t have the final say so why blame him? Congress has sole authority and responsibility for the defense budget, among other military programs.

The facilities put down their needs and wishes for a budget three years in advance due to depreciation under capital expenditures. Each year that budget wish list is sent up channel making stops at probably 3 or 4 dozen desks being changed each time until it is settled at the congressional level. Then it starts back down, again stopping at many stops, and is pencil whipped until it reaches the supply sections at the facility level where the purchases are made. This is also basically how the NAF budgets are accomplished. So who determined what was bought? Some member of a committee in congress and probably a couple of hundred people with their finger in the pie.

It happens every year in government agencies, and large businesses.

And a person would have to be hugely ignorant and willfully stupid to NOT know this fact.

Is there no cure for this disease ?

There was always steak and lobster when it was time to deploy my father said. I see no problem in feeding our troops a great meal before they go into combat. I doubt Pete could actually eat this all by himself. I hate democrats.

“When I was at sea it was steak and lobster every Friday night.”

I had the choice of steak and lobster at sea or c-rats on an LZ. I chose the c-rats and never regretted it.

I think I understand the food, but I balk at $98,000 for the Steinway piano, even if it’s for the AF chief of staff. But is any of this true?

2.8 million members in the military. Assume that at any given time 50% are being fed by the military. At $25 a day it costs $26,000,000 to feed the military for a day.

In my job, which is not dangerous in the least, we occasionally have a special event together, the last of which included steak and lobster.

This whole thing is a big SO WHAT!

whatever’s left in their budget in late September to prevent being allocated less in the next budget.

That's also standard practice for each department in big companies.

Were you banking in the torpedo room? I assume no nukes aboard.
