“In the Indian Ocean—an American submarine sunk an Iranian warship, that thought it was safe in international waters.
Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo—Quiet Death.
The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War 2. Like in that war—back when we were still the War Department—we are fighting to win."

How cool for that crew, spending your entire enlistment or a career in submarines doesn’t normally give a guy a lot of bar stories, but torpedoing an Iranian warship is a great one.

As a general rule, desert rats do not know how to swim. In this case, the learning curve is very steep.

To borrow from “Charlie And His Orchestra”:
Who sinks the trawler, the tanker, the ship full of meat?
Who sinks destroyers and cruisers, the pride of the fleet?
It’s now the season, the reason, it’s plain what it means
American submarines!

The coolest part of that video is the sailors running up to the forepeak after the explosion.
Blew off her stern, broke her back just aft of the stack. She would have sunk quickly.
Submarines are deadly when properly used.

The MK 48 is designed to explode under the keel of a surface vessel, using the gas bubble to lift and break the ship. Proximity-fused, 650# warhead.
Interesting it blew the stern off the ship. Typical to aim more amidships.
Perhaps they were looking to spare more crew yet still kill the ship.

I watched that greyscale (probably IR) video several times. Never saw anyone running on the foredeck.
What video were you watching.

OK, OK. NOW I see the glowing humans running just prior to and then after the explosion.

Interesting it blew the stern off the ship. Typical to aim more amidships. I suspect the sensors in the torpedo homed in on the screws.
