Californians have been trapped in Mexico as cartel violence engulfed a popular tourist city and spilled towards the US border.
Americans in Puerto Vallarta were urged to stay indoors as narco gangs went on a bloody rampage after leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes was killed in a military raid on Sunday.
Carnage spread up the west coast of the country through Sunday, with reports of attacks getting closer to the States in Baja California while gunfire erupted at Guadalajara International Airport.
Cars and businesses were also set on fire further across the country in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cancun on the east side.
Among those trapped in Puerto Vallarta was Katy Holloman, who had been on the way to the airport when she was suddenly told to stay at the hotel.
The make up artist from El Dorado Hills said: “We were told to shelter in place right now, we need to stay in the hotel, it was safer here, but it is not safe to travel to the airport.
“The road is closed due to the cartel. There’s no flights going out of the airport to the States. We’ve rescheduled them for tomorrow afternoon, really hoping we make it home.
“Just going to pray we make it home tomorrow. This is unprecedented here, the hotel staff have been saying this has never happened before.”

I knew Mexicans that wouldn’t go to Mexico due to the corruption. $20 to this police man, $10 to that one, etc.
You have to be an idiot to vacation in Mexico let alone retire there. I have no sympathy for any stupid American who is getting what they should have known might happen to them. No sympaty at all.
Maybe the survivors will develop the sense to never set foot in Mexico again.
How can a place be “beautiful” when you might be kidnapped, murdered, assaulted and so forth?
There are many “beautiful” places which feature none of that criminal insanity and uncertainty.
PS If you are a college student, don’t go to Mexico for spring break.
**Sorry, I have zero compassion for anyone dumb enough to go to a nation embroiled in drug wars with violence everywhere.**
I have former high school classmates (husband and wife) that were due to fly there in a couple of days. How do I know this? The husband is one of those Fakebook nerds, always thinking everybody wants to know what ‘interesting’ thing he and wife are up to.
(Disclaimer: yes, I have a FB account, but rarely use it; my wife regularly uses it to look at Marketplace, and ‘alerts’ me to ‘friends’ stuff, most of which I don’t give a hoot about.)
The TOPOGRAPHY.....GEESH.
The US press, with encouragement from the tourism industry and government, has been covering up the extent of Mexico’s lawlessness for years. The propaganda that has been heavily pushed is that Mexico is a great vacation spot and only small pockets of the country are dangerous. This should open a lot of peoples’ eyes to that lie.
Mehico is not our friend. They’ve always dumped their human sewage and garbage on us. America is their ATM. Without America, Mehico with be the bigget turd world garbage dump on the planet.
What’s interesting, one reason for that is because historically they didn’t hardly pay those guys anything. So while it ain’t right, at least there’s a reason.
What’s the excuse in the U.S.A.? Cops and government and officials make good wages.
I’ve never been tapped to give a US cop a bribe.
There is another course.
Cede the lower 200 miles of California to Mexico and rid America of the Cancer
That is ...... unless Zorro comes. Where is Zorro when he is so desperately needed?
Been to Puerto Vallarta twice, in the 90’s. Had a lovely time. I’ve also been to Cancun and Acapulco, used to live in the first American town north of Tijuana and have visited a few smaller spots in Mexico. Back then, I never felt unsafe.
They couldn’t pay me enough to go back there, now!
Besides, for every illegal alien we’ve had to ingest, some acreage shoud come with them.
unfortunately every acre comes with more of them.
Declared invasion.
Closed border.
“Let’s hang out in Mexico”.
“Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs.”
Ha ha ha ha ha ha... ROFL!!!
LOL, perfect.
My grandfather was in the Calvary unit that went after that POS.
Land would be nice but in the meantime, how about a tax on Mexico for every one of their citizens who shows up here planning to soak us for more cash?
We paid them for the Mexican war and the Gadsden Purchase. That means they stay on their soil. Since they aren’t, they need to pay back what sent them.
Call it the Gadsden Tax.
My next door neighbors are in PV right now.
