A 43-year-old Kansas man allegedly spent his Christmas Eve on a mission to kill someone and armed himself with a hammer before knocking on a door of a home with several cars in the driveway.
When a woman holding her 1-month-old baby answered, the suspect — later identified as Jason Eastburn — pounced, cops say. He repeatedly hit her in the head with the hammer, requiring doctors to patch up the wound on her head with four staples, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit released on Monday.

I had an elderly relative who for various reasons could not take care of a dog. But she did have a high-quality recording of a barking dog, ready to play if someone knocked on her door.
Better than nothing, I suppose.

This is why mental institutions need to be opened back up - and expanded.
Also, get yourself a Ring camera so you can see who is at the door - and NEVER, EVER open it to strangers - you can ask what they want from the Ring app.
We have a heavy security gate that bolts into the frame of the house that allows for air circulation and adds a layer of protection. Dogs too - that do not like strangers.

I look through the window to see if I know the person. If I do, I open the door. If I don’t, I inquire from behind the deadbolt what their business is.
If they don’t leave when instructed, the. I arm myself.
