Matt Shumer warns that AI is reshaping industries like law, finance, and customer service, urging professionals to adapt quickly to stay relevant.

Artificial intelligence could eliminate up to half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within the next five years, according to tech entrepreneur Matt Shumer, who says the shift is unfolding faster than most people realise.

Shumer, founder and CEO of AI firm OthersideAI (HyperWrite), made the remarks in a widely shared essay titled Something Big Is Happening. In it, he compared the current AI moment to early 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted economies and daily life across the world.

I mean sure, Matt, but what can we do about it? What’s that? You have a service you happen to be selling that will help us?

Why do we need an H-1B work visa again?

Give these CEOs 5 customer issues that require human involvement. Make them navigate THEIR AI maze. I guarantee that each one would fail.

Career Ladder has traditionally been:
Entry level position —> Middle Management —> Senior Position

Well, the entry level positions are getting cut really drastically, so I don’t know how people will start their career.

And most industries decided years ago that Middle Management is a waste of company money, so Middle Management got hollowed out a long time ago.

But we still have Senior positions, don’t we?

So you can’t be entry level, you can’t be in the middle,
but you can start your career as a Senior Vice President in charge of the Pacific Region.

Seriously: Our society better start putting some thought into a world in which most people have nothing to contribute to the national economy.

I just read another article stating that many middle managers are recognizing the folly of firing their seasoned software developers after observing that AI produces lots of useless slop. That "rescue" may not hold over other job types that AI is replacing, but it is evident that AI isn't the ultimate solution for software engineering.

It’s such an easy win for any politician that ends the H1B visa scam. Rep. Steube introduced a bill to end the the program but I doubt it will go anywhere.

Really tired of CEOs mouthing off everyday. Too bad their mommies didn’t give them enough attention as kids.

Cool. I was anyway thinking of moving to Minnesota and opening a child daycare and learing centre

skimming from government debt and printed fiat, is a lot more profitable than working in my cubicle anyway.

The H-1B visa Indians already did this over the last 10 years. And nobody seems to have noticed.

Their former employees will get jobs at consulting companies, who will fix the mess caused by AI at three times the salary they would have gotten to do it right in the first place.

When AI can lay block, pour a driveway, replace an HVAC motor, do a brake job or even turn a screwdriver I’ll consider being impressed.

Perhaps they should ask AI how to prevent the job losses...since it will apparently “know everything”

“Seriously: Our society better start putting some thought into a world in which most people have nothing to contribute to the national economy.”

We already have this problem, because those people can vote.
They vote Democrat!
I suppose you want some solutions.
Create walled cities where all drugs, food, water, housing, and entertainment is free. All volunteers are welcome.
Do not allow anybody to leave those cities. Do not allow them any means to fabricate any kinds of tools.
They will just live a life of Idyllic contentment.
Like a garden of Eden.
Just don’t let them out!
