Two transgender teenagers who were close friends at the same California school have died by suicide less than a year apart.
Summer Devi Mehta, 17, stepped into the path of a Caltrain on February 3, just 10 months before her classmate, Ash He, died the same way.
Mehta was a junior at Palo Alto High School in the Bay Area, while 15-year-old He was a sophomore.
Mehta left a suicide note explaining that she hoped her death would bring people together and raise awareness about the suicide crisis among the trans community.
Her family, who found her letter, wrote a heart-wrenching tribute to their daughter, which was published by The Trevor Project, an LGBTQ+ suicide prevention charity.
'The world was a scary place for her, as a transgender, autistic woman. It should not have been,' Mehta's heartbroken relatives wrote.
'It should have seen her for the wonderful, radiant and deeply empathetic person she was.'
According to her family, Mehta struggled with depression as well as the death of her best friend He, who identified as non-binary.
'All Summer wanted to do was make the people in her life happy, and be a good kid, a good friend, a good sister, a good daughter,' her family wrote.

Aside from the tranny thing, Palo Alto has long been a sort of national capital of teen suicides. The kids are mostly the offspring of either folks affiliated with Stanford University or top-tier tech workers. There’s a lot of brain power but also a lot of pressure or high expectations, as well as a long-known associations of high IQ with depression, anxiety and other mental maladies.
For those of you unfamiliar, this in a high school in a wealthy area, where people like Joan Baez, Grace Slick, James Franco, Jim Harbaugh, and Jeremy Lin went.
Because the Bay Area is a known bastion of intolerant hateful right wing extremist Christian hateful (or did I already say hateful?) transophobic poopyheads.
You have to decode them. It is as confusing as Hell.
There is a high suicide rate among the young “Trans”. Along with those who, in the case of males have their peckers cut off and the case of females who have their breasts cut off. And in both cases they are, in all probability, highly encouraged by the adults close to them. I would not rule out Demonic Possession. When they reach a certain the Demon leaves them to possess another victim. And the individual begins to realize and understand that have been fed a line of bull shit. That their body has been permanently changed, that they have been living a lie and will continue to live the lie. At that point they decide that life is not worth living any longer and they end theirs. When one thinks about it, it is sad. I don’t like it but....
Good riddance to both of the freaks. Kudos to them for not going out with bangs to classmates.
They don’t just suicide due to mental illness anymore. They romanticize it, because they’re remembered and talked about, and get to post pretty pictures from tall places. And each one will inspire the next.
