Jaguar Land Rover 'on brink of going back to petrol' after fury at 'woke' rebrand
Express ^ | January 26, 2026 | Luke Chillingsworth, Cars Reporter

Jaguar Land Rover could soon develop a part-petrol road car despite planning to go completely electric, according to reports. The British brand is reportedly drawing up plans for a vehicle powered partly by a combustion engine, which will be known as a “range-extended electric vehicle”.

This is likely to have a small petrol engine fitted to charge the main battery. But the component could be fitted to ease drivers' concerns about running out of power. According to experts, an additional petrol engine could extend the range of new Jaguar cars by around 400km, rising from 700km to 1,100km.

The iconic Jaguar and Land Rover logos are prominently displayed on a modern building, signifying luxury automotive excellence and British heritage.

Despite The Sunday Times reports, Jaguar seemed to suggest that nothing was changing, although they didn’t deny a petrol-powered car was in the works.

In a statement to Express.co.uk, a spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover said: “Our plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury automotive brand are unchanged. Last month, prototype passenger rides received overwhelmingly positive reactions from global media, and we are looking forward to unveiling the first new electric Jaguar later this year. "

Jaguar unveiled its major brand overhaul at the end of 2024, ditching its focus on elegant and sporty designs to focus on electric models. As part of this, Jaguar revealed its dramatic new Type 00 model, which looked completely different from models previously revealed.

The rebrand was quickly blasted, with many considering the new approach to be “woke”. Last year, Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, seemed to suggest that Jaguar had made mistakes with the rebrand.

Rawdon told Autocar: “The past is vital after all, we're in our 90th year but perhaps we haven't explained well enough that Jaguar shouldn't want to repeat itself. It's not in our DNA. Look at the step from E-Type to XJS.

“One of my key learnings since we first showed the Concept 00 a year ago has been that we didn't take enough time to explain why Jaguar had to change. When you lay that out clearly, people tend to get it."

Jag isn’t a British company. It’s Indian. Tata bought it from Ford in 2008. Combining Indian engineering with British manufacturing quality.

There are several outfits making a fair amount of money installing small block Chevrolet engines/transmissions in Jaguars.

I have often wondered how many sales that picture cost Jaguar?

Funny story about a 1966 XK-E Jag, the most beautiful sports car ever. I was coming out of the grocery store recently and an obviously wealthy gentleman and his lady of many years younger were in a 1966 E Jag by the door. It is good to be rich.

I admired his Jag and his lady (I doubt she was cheap but most obviously worth every penny) and asked, “If you had to choose between her and the Jag which would you choose?” The lady looked at him rather harshly and he immediately pointed to her. I enjoyed that and suspect they had a good laugh also.

The turbos are there because of the idiotic CAFE standards it is the only way the car makers can meet the standards and they are engine killers.

Daniel Craig will never be bond material. He is too gay for the roll after the writers made bond a homo. Sean Connery (you just have to slap sense in to her) kilt dropper Lazenby, and Moore are Bond. James Bond.

Bronson couldn’t pull it off and neither did Dalton. Good actors. But just not Bond.

A bunch of idiots. Just ask their repeat customers what they want. They same thing can be said of Budweiser. They spent millions going woke and lost billions by using a transvestite as their cheerleader. Idiots on steroids were they. All they had to do was just stand outside of grocery stores, inside bars, etc. and ask those that were drinking Budweiser or buying Budweiser what they thought about a transvestites spokesman, spokeswomen, spokes-it for Budweiser. It would probably be wise not to survey Biker Bars. LOL.

I am not a statistician but could have easily done this survey for a mere million bucks and it would be accurate. I would hire the statistician. My job would be to find out who drinks Budweiser and talk to them. Budweiser already has the data to give to me. I would just need to interview them. The statistician crunches the numbers. I suspect me and the statistician would have easily been 400 K each ahead.

I say this not in jest. If you do not know your customer you will loose your customer. Budweiser will never recover from this and will never be number one again. The reason is many left Budweiser because of what they did and discovered far better brews than Bud. It is really bad beer. IPA is beer and oddly others not IPA. Yuengling being one and many micro brewers around the nation. I will say this about those insane left wing hippies left over from the 60s up in the Northwest, THEY BREW GOOD BEER AND IN PARTICULAR IPA.

This does not make sense to me. I designed the floor boards on the 750 (I know, not much to brag about I usually design flight controls. Anything on the CJ2 Cessnas and Learjet after about 2005 has my ailerons, flaps and rudder controls I designed) You would be surprised how much goes in to something seemingly silly like aircraft floor boards) I don’t think the 8000 is flying or certified yet. It would be a FAR 23 plane. I gotta look in to this. Bombardier is a good company and I did lots of work for them in Wichita with their Lear group ((on the 650 and 750 series (they added another zero for some reason). Also. Take a look at their site. Those are my tables in the cabin...... I designed and manufactured them... :-) I can’t say what I did for Cessna after the CJ project but it was pretty awesome. Bombardier is solid despite their union clowns.

I will call out Trump for incorrect posts. And at this point I can’t find any justification why he is blasting Bambardier. It doesn’t make sense. One thing in my experience is the US and Canadian aviation authorities have ALWAYS been on the same page with each other and stayed out of politics. I’ll keep you posted via PM. Kind regards FRiend.

I remember memes showing pictures of Teslas towing generators. Looks like Jaguar is essentially making it come true.

I don’t think he has anything against Bombardier per se, it’s just his means of retaliating against Canada for not certifying Gulfstream products.

Interesting line of work! If you’re interested in WWII history and want some YouTube vids on aircraft with some serious technical detail, check out Greg’s Airplanes and Automobiles channel. I’ve been watching a lot of that lately. Have an engineering background.
