A "Star Trek" actress says conservative backlash is pushing the franchise to lean harder into what she calls its "super woke" identity. Among the critics is White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, who has accused the franchise of abandoning its core audience.
Gina Yashere, who plays Lura Thok in the new Paramount+ series "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," responded online after sharing a clip from comedian Bill Maher’s show that touched on the controversy.
"All of the hatred coming at us is from fragile, angry White men, talking about either our non-whiteness or our bodies," Yashere wrote Sunday in an Instagram post.

If you want to be entertained there are reaction videos to “Starfleet Academy” from Nerdrotic, Disparu, HeelvsBabyface, and Critical Drinker.
Bad plot, poor acting, shift from core topics that have worked for decades, shifting lore to match ‘modern themes,’ and then there is surprise when things that worked (eg, Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings) start to fail.
Rinse, wash, repeat.
Sooner or later the losses will pile up and the message will get through. I noticed that Kathleen Kennedy, who almost single-handedly destroyed the Star Wars franchise), left last week.
I refuse to watch a single episode, I have seen enough of the reviews that I know what kind of swill it is. I do love the reviews. I do like some of Holly Hunters past movies, but her role in this if a frigging joke. I couldn’t manage to get through Discovery though I think I did watch the first two seasons.

These people have learned nothing from Kathleen Kennedy destroying the multi billion dollar Star Wars franchise. Going miles out of your way to try to shove your Leftist Woke politics crap down people's throats....and then whining and claiming your own fanbase is "toxic" for objecting is not a winning formula. They just stop watching and the franchise dies a brutal death.
These people still have not learned that their audience is not other Wokeratti in Hollywood. Nobody watches movies or TV shows to be preached at by Leftists about their insane politics. Try that and they just tune out and you lose a crapload of money.
Exact same reaction here. The Star Trek franchise started to go off the rails with Voyager in the late 90s. They at least gave us Jerri Ryan to look at. Enterprise was pretty reasonable. Then came Discovery which became unwatchable after a season or two and now this which I refuse to watch a single episode of.
We are a perfect example of the fanbase for the franchise they call “toxic”. OK. (shrug) Well screw you too. I just won’t watch then if you’re gonna pump out crap like this and then insult me when I tell you it doesn’t appeal to me. There are many many more former fans just like us who will also not watch.......and that’s how a valuable franchise gets destroyed. Congratulations morons.

This is what is so strange to me. I don't give a damn how woke you are. You would think there would be some adult in charge who wanted to actually make money....and make no mistake, that is all it would take. He/She could be woke as hell personally. All anybody would need to do is have a lick of common sense and realize no matter what their own personal views, those are not the audience's views and they will tune out if you try to shove your views down their throats. You could at least try to be subtle about it...to smuggle them in here and there gently enough not to piss people off. But no. They instead on going full retard every single time which guarantees they lose money hand over fist.
Its the exact same dynamic with the corporate media. Fox in on the BoomerCon Right and MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NBC, ABC, CBS are all piled up on the Left. Meanwhile there is tons of open space politically on the more populist Right for somebody to capture instantly if they start covering news from that perspective.....guaranteed profits......nope! They would rather LOSE MONEY and run their networks straight into the ground catering to a small slice of the Far Left audience which is less than half the country and no adult in charge ever stops them or even tries to make money. Weird.

I can’t could never sit through modern Trek just because of how the sets look and how the show is filmed. It just looks awful.
