'Landman' is not a good show. But it's a great watch.

This review contains spoilers for Season 2 of “Landman.” But honestly, it must be seen to be believed.

Episode 1 of the second season of “Landman” — ostensibly about Tommy Norris, a fixer for an oil company — kicks off with a minute-long rant against breakfast.

In Episode 4, a sand hauler plows into a pickup truck on company land. There are multiple fatalities. We basically never hear about it again.

In Episode 7, Tommy and his ex-wife-turned-fiancée Angela (Ali Larter, given acres of scenery to chew), have an unprintable shouting match about the appropriate uses of an omelet.

Also, unrelatedly, in Episode 7: His pop scolds him, “I can’t wait 'til your prostate is the size of a grapefruit,” and then urinates on a rattlesnake.

It’s ludicrous. There’s nothing like it on television. Each week, I drink it up with the relish of “There Will Be Blood’s” Daniel Plainview, prospecting with his straw.

The show began on more stable footing, following the forever-exasperated Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) through dusty vistas. In the constellation of projects by Taylor Sheridan, our leading red state auteur, it landed somewhere between artisanal Sheridan (the critically-acclaimed screenwriter) and franchise Sheridan (the impresario of “Yellowstone” and its spin-offs, and a purveyor of $38 candles). Like much of his writing, “Landman” glamorizes gritty men (and some women!) doing gritty jobs: Whether they’re petroleum engineers risking life and limb or boardroom cowboys wrangling deal flow, the work is nasty and necessary, and therefore noble.

IMHO it's worth watching, has some excellent commentary on oil/NG verses solar/wind power. Scantily clad women (occasional topless) provide good eye candy, even if some are long of tooth.

Unfortunately Billy Bob and Sam are talking about leaving the show which would effectively kill it.

The interaction between Sam and Cheyenne is classic dirty old man reality.

I don’t watch it much, but when the guy heats his pork & beans in the microwave, in the can, and wrecks the microwave is pretty funny.

It’s been reported that Billy Bob is in fact gone after season 2 and it was always the plan for him to leave at some point.

We tried watching but bailed after the first 3 or 4 episodes. My wife couldn’t get past the dropping of the F bomb rate of 18 per minute.

Pretty soon that word will be meaningless and have no shock value.

One wonders what they’ll do next to appear ‘edgy’.

If it’s worth watching - YOUR words - then why post a POS review by the WaCompost???

To all, my summation:

MUST WATCH.

You won’t regret anything except the urge to binge watch the series once you’re hooked after the first episode.

“ wife couldn’t get past the dropping of the F bomb rate of 18 per minute.”
No kidding, that seems to be the standard today. When are the TV manufacturers going to put a -F button on the remote?
They seem to use the F bomb as much as recent college grads use the “like” word in conversation.

The CIA paper of record is upset a dingy blonde dared talked back to a prototypical leftist she-beast and pointed out her/its hypocrisy.

I spend most of my life around combat arms military (all services), barely even notice an F bomb anymore.

Season one was very good, but I guess they are going to give everything back to the Indians at the very end of the series.

98% of it is nothing like the oilfield I spent 45 years in right down in the trenches in both kinds of companies, major and independent all around the world including the Permian Basin. The trades descriptions are the most realistic part and I have spent time on stake outs, dealing with wrecks, getting guys out of jail, taking guns from a drunk and restarting a rig after he ran everybody off just for starters but none with cartels.

Never did like Thornton, don’t like the show.

Same here. I saw it at a friend's house and in the middle of an episode I got up and headed home to rinse my ears out.

Watch Doc and Festus on Gunsmoke, they were so colorful and wild with language, and Doc so grumpy all the time that they took their act on the road outside of the series, yet it was great writing without any curse words.

We had the same experience with Tulsa King.

I enjoyed Season One but haven't watched much of Season Two. It's getting dragged pretty hard on social media with complaints that it's turned into a soap opera. Sophomore Slump. It happens. Hopefully Season Three has Billy Bob going to Venezuela.

Anyhow, for a good Taylor Sheridan show, give Mayor of Kingstown a shot. Four solid seasons so far. It's great!

I love the show and Thornton is perfect for the Tommy character. And the things he has to put up with in his job, his wife and daughter are hilarious.

“”Watch Doc and Festus on Gunsmoke, they were so colorful and wild with language””

I don’t think you’ll find an episode when they used the kind of language prevalent today on TV AND FR!!!!!!

“’Landman’ is not a good show. But it’s a great watch.”

I can’t get past the title of the article. “It’s not good but it’s great”. Sounds like some tranny that can’t figure out whether if “it” is a male or a female.

And why do people have to post just to say that they watched 5 minutes of the show and then turned it off. Sheridan’s shows happen to be very popular.

Billy Bob Thornton is confirmed to be in Landman Season 3 as the lead, Tommy Norris, despite his character being fired at the end of Season 2; he’s signed a multi-year deal and plans to stay as long as the show runs, with filming expected to start in Spring 2026 for a likely late 2026 release.

Just what I needed today. I needed to know the opinion of a Washington DC-based, Vietnamese Yale chick, about Landman, and her interpretation of the nutcase Taylor Sheridan.

It’s too early to have a drink on Sunday and I shoulda gone to church today.

Maybe the Lubbock Avalanche Journal can explain the bribery, hooker and closet homo politician scene in DC, or do a deep dive into Yale Eating Clubs.

Unreal...
