Prince is back on the pop charts. So are Kate Bush and Fleetwood Mac. That can only mean one thing: Netflix's Stranger Things finale, which dropped Dec. 31, is shaking up the Billboard Hot 100.
Three decades-old songs that appear in the finale pop up this week: Prince and the Revolution's "Purple Rain" at No. 27, Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" at No. 41 and Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" (which the show had already boosted a few years ago) at No. 46. The rise of "Landslide," one of Fleetwood Mac's signature songs, is especially notable: Though a live version of the track charted briefly in the late '90s, the 1975 studio version — the one that appeared on Stranger Things — had never before cracked the Hot 100.
Half a century ago, Fleetwood Mac released what would go on to become not just one of the band’s most beloved songs, but what is regarded as one of the best-written tunes of all time. “Landslide” has always been adored, and yet it was never pushed as an official single, so some casual listeners might be surprised to learn that the track never reached a number of important charts, despite its incredible popularity.
Fleetwood Mac scores its first new placement on the Official Singles chart in well over a decade. The last time the band debuted a track on the competitive 100-spot roster was back in the spring of 2009, when “The Chain” finally became a smash.

I love when Rick Beato does a devastating deconstruction of whatever the current hit is.

I like Rick Beato’s YouTube videos too!
Oh yeah, and the current generation recognizes that.
I live in a college town and I only hear 60s, 70s and 80s music (and a smattering of 90s songs)at the local coffee shops, restaurants and stores. Those kids know what the good stuff is.
Just last night, I was out running errands and heard the Cure, New Order, The Traveling Wilburys and Elton John at various stops.
I held a secret torch for Christine McVie for years.
A brief excerpt from the chorus of Landslide is on some current TV commercial - maybe a car company, maybe on college football? No attribution in the ad, but it might lead young folks to do a search for the title.
me too! :-)
“a smattering of 90s songs”
That tracks with the fading of Rock and Roll.
Being born in ‘60 I was an MTV rat of the 80s.
Got many great memories of arena rock shows back then when artists actually had talent and could actually play a quality live show.
Today’s music is beyond my understanding......and that includes a lot of country music as well.
I wouldn’t be surprised if FM toured in 2026.
I generally enjoyed it a lot, apart from the profanity (I was there in the Eighties and kids did NOT talk like that all the time!). And apart from two female characters who were dating (yuck!).
And then there was a major character who came out and said "I don't like girls" in the next to last episode. It had been hinted that this character was "different" going all the way to the first season. I didn't care for his sexuality, but I could understand his choice to reveal his temptation to the rest of the group, lest it be used against him by the main bad guy.
Well, like I said, I quite enjoyed it.
“Landslide” is also presently running in a car commercial so it is definitely getting airplay.
Having had the record album long, long ago, the next song on the album is “World Turning” which was not a hit but is one that sticks with you. “World Turning -I gotta get my feet back on the ground. World Turning - Everybody’s got me down.” Now, as a Christian, as I see the vast wasteland of my former life, it’s music, it’s ideas, that song has a different meaning to me than what Lindsey Buckingham probably meant when he wrote it. We live in a crazy, sinful world where up is down and down is up. We’ve gotta get our feet back on the ground.
Except for the forced LG, I did like the 5th seasin
Rick Beato interviewed Rick Wakeman a while back. Hilarious.
It’s an hour-long interview that feels like 10 minutes.
I guess He's touring in 2026, I wonder what his shows are like.
…
…
(Now guess my age.)
I nominate “Landslide” as the most depressing pop song ever (especially if you’ve gone through divorce).
I saw the Wakeman interview. He’s a hoot. Also, he and Emerson actually got a long great and hung out together. The whole rivalry thing was just something they played up for the fans.
I got about halfway through the last season and gave up. They’re all gay now.
I never heard of him until I went to his you tube channel.
