You’ve heard of DEI in the workforce, but DEI in the National Football League isn’t all that different of a ball game. And after looking at the stats, BlazeTV host Jason Whitlock determines it’s been doing far more damage than good.
In 2018, 19 quarterbacks averaged more than 250 passing yards per game. Now, in 2025, there are only five quarterbacks who average more than 250 passing yards per game.
“There are five quarterbacks that average more than 250 passing yards per game: Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff, Patrick Mahomes, and Drake Maye. ... What are we watching? What is going on with the National Football League?” Whitlock asks, disturbed.
“Has gambling and fantasy football distracted us so much and covered up all the flaws of the National Football League that we’re sitting here watching ... quarterback play go directly into the toilet, and we’re pretending like we don’t see it at all,” he continues.
However, Whitlock has a theory as to why this is happening.
“My contention is, the hyperfocus on DEI and black quarterback play has diminished merit, has diminished competition, has undermined the pursuit of excellence for the pursuit of quotas. And everybody’s play has dropped because of the hyperfocus on DEI,” Whitlock explains.
“DEI degrades everything in sight, including the National Football League,” he adds.
In 2018, Whitlock points out that there were three black quarterbacks who had more than 250 passing yards.

Didn’t Rush Limbaugh get in trouble for basically saying the same thing?
LoL. He got kicked off ESPN.
The game changes. If you have Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry, you pass less. If you are up 14 in the 4th quarter you pass less. If half the kickoffs end with the team at the 35 yard line, fewer long passes. If the defense is superior, passes become more conservative. DEI doesn’t stand out as the cause here.
Is Cooper DeJean a cornerback because of DEI?
Limbaugh was like Trump. He got in trouble for everything he said or did not say and everything he did or did not do.
I think it’s a stupid article. So quarterbacks would be throwing for more yards if they were white? Receivers, offensive lines, defensive backs, pass rushers, defensive and offensive coordinators, league rules, etc have a lot to do with quarterback performance. Most NFL players at all positions are black.
Highly competitive league. Where are all the superior white players going to come from?
Kind of like arguing there don’t happen to be more talented black basketball players in this era and boxers in previous decades.
Rush was right that the NFL was interested in having more black quarterbacks.
But as I recall he was talking about Donovan McNabb not being that good. In his early years Mcnabb was a stud quarterback.
That was 20 plus years ago. I dont think anyone thinks Mahomes is DEI.
And how many decades did it take to break the CB racial bullshit?
“...CB racial bull...”

???
Black corners bragging about there never being another white corner in the league.
Colin Kaepernick won after all.
No more Unitas, Starr, Namath.
Why? Ask Boo-boo. He knows. He always knows.
Well DUH!
Anybody over the age of 60 could have told us that, long ago...
I think QB play in the NFL has been declining for years because (1) these guys are getting drafted younger, (2) the salary cap and free agent rules result in massive player movement every season and make it impossible to maintain team chemistry, and (3) they aren’t given sufficient time to develop early in their careers.
Item (3) is one I’ve noticed for a long time. It used to be that only top QBs out of college would land starting jobs as rookies. Now, it seems like every fifth-rate QB who makes an NFL roster out of training camp is being given a chance to start at least a half-dozen games as a rookie.
Not sure 250 yards passing per game alone is an indicator of very much. What about passes attempted, passes completed, yards per completion and percentage completed.
And then, how many rushing yards per game for a QB is a factor. I prefer a great passer who’s an opportunistic runner rather than one who has many designed rushing plays per game.
“LoL. He got kicked off ESPN.”
Wasn’t Rush banned as a partner in a franchise?
This seems silly. What we have now is an influx of young and often BIG quarterbacks who are good enough runners to be a significant offensive run threat. They certainly are no Derrick Henry or even Christian McCaffrey, able to make hard cuts and endure 15-20 rushes a game pounding while running over linebackers, but they can run faster than you’d think, are elusive, and, again, good sized. There are not many Drew Breese’s around. That seems to result in a lot more plays for QB’s that are designed runs or that are designed for a run option: Scramble off to the side and take off if the receivers are covered or you have a big opening.
