Alex Berenson, author of Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence, pointed out that the New York Times had curiously removed from an article about the Uvalde school shooter a former coworker’s recollection that he complained about his grandmother not letting him smoke weed. The Times didn’t append a correction to the story as it might be expected to do when fixing a factual inaccuracy...
Assuming the elided detail was accurate, it would fit a pattern.
Mass shooters at Rep. Gabby Giffords’s constituent meeting in Tucson, Ariz. (2011), a movie theater in Aurora, Colo. (2012), the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla. (2016), the First Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas (2017), and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. (2018), were reported to be marijuana users. It could be a coincidence, but increasing evidence suggests a connection.
Roneet Lev, an addiction specialist who previously led the Emergency Department at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, said in a recent interview with the American Council on Science and Health that California cannabis emergency-room visits climbed 53% in the three years after the state legalized recreational marijuana in 2016. Daily marijuana emergency-room visits in San Diego nearly quadrupled between 2014 and 2019. Cannabis-induced psychosis, she said, is fairly common. Some patients she treated experienced cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome from long-term use, which causes “scromiting”—screaming and vomiting. There’s no antidote. Some patients spend weeks in the emergency room waiting for placement in mental-health clinics…
Countless studies have also linked chronic cannabis use to schizophrenia.

Reefer Madness 3.0. Cannabis is the ONLY cause?
Is Hemp OK?
“were reported to be marijuana users”
Well, that’s all the proof you need right there. Did the reporters also report that the school shooters were all or mostly mixed up trans kids?
maybe cannabis and gender dysphoria are linked in more ways than one…
“maybe cannabis and gender dysphoria are linked in more ways than one…”
Yea, it’s called mental illness.
I thought it was illegal to insult pot. May peace be upon it.
Alcohol caused more accidental and violent deaths in the last 100 years, than all the other drugs combined.
I’m somewhat skeptical of a link between cannabis and violence. The schizophrenia aspect is real but I don’t know how common that really is. But as I walk through life I see a lot people these days who are — confused, stupid, disagreeable, and difficult to deal with. I’m pretty sure that cannabis is contributing to this. I would say that “mental illness” is pretty much everywhere and I think that at least some of the “mental illness” is basically cannabis use. I think some of the people would get better if they just stopped using it.
It seems to me that homelessness exploded right after they legalized marijuana. I was surprised at how few homeless people there were in Texas (except Austin) despite the good climate. Galveston is like Dan Diego but I did not see any homeless people there. San Diego they are all over the sidewalks.
Yes no THC smoke tea it smells the same
I take a small amount of THC to calm down and sleep at the end of the day. It doesn’t make me violent; it just makes me want to turn my phone off and watch Babylon 5.
Marihuana is not at all harmless.
There is a reason why it was banned and should be banned still.
The current marihuana legalization in many states actually gave us more knowledge about marihuana effects and they are a lot worse than previously imagined.
A lot worse than smoking tobacco!
However the killing mentioned above is chicken and egg problem.
All those cases were horrible cases of schizophrenia and the killing were definitely caused by schizophrenia (Lots of schizophrenics are unfortunately let to roam the streets instead being locked in mad houses.)
Marihuana and schizophrenia go side by side, but
there is a disagreement, if marihuana use causes schizophrenia, or schizophrenia causes extensive marihuana use!
The real problem is the people who smoke Weed all day long. They wake up to get high.
““scromiting”—screaming and vomiting.”
That sounds fun. But no more different then a typical left wing agitation protest. Hmmmmm. Maybe a correlation?
you mean illegal again* (Prohibition era.)
Having a glass of wine with dinner is not the same as doing a joint though…
I wish cigarettes were illegal.
The real problem is the people who smoke Weed all day long. They wake up to get high.
Just as with people who drink all day, as opposed to enjoying an occasional beer or two.
Hopefully (extra) chamomile, licorice root, lavender, mint, or ashgawanda would have similar effects…
Exactly.
FYI.
But never, ever try talking to a doper about the dangers of marijuana; it’s effects on mood, memory, cognition, motor skills, violent behavior, etc.
Ever.
Unless you want to hear a warmed-over rambling illogical late 1970’s High Times lecture starting with “bUt aLCoHol… dErP!”
