Publix has long been considered Florida's favorite supermarket, but it seems customers are turning their backs on the grocery giant.
One frustrated shopper recently took to Reddit to air their grievances after picking up a prime tenderloin steak at a Publix store in Yulee, Florida.
A photo of the package showed the meat priced at a jaw-dropping $61.49 — or $49.99 per pound.
'This is criminal,' the customer wrote.
'You can get a full ribeye or tenderloin dinner with table bread, 2 sides and softdrinks in Florida at a Outback, texas roadhouse or Longhorn for $26 - $31,' one wrote.
'Publix is wildly overpriced,' someone else chimed in.

I can attest to this.
While beef is expensive everywhere, Publix is far higher than the other 4 places I grocery shop.
I love my Publix buy I really have to watch what I buy.
Buying beef there is out of the question.....I CAN afford it, but it's the principal.
$25 for a bone in ribeye?.....ridiculous.

Trump has managed to slow inflation to a great extent. Gas is cheaper. Eggs are cheaper. Lots of stuff is cheaper now than it was under Biden.
What isn’t cheaper? Beef.
And so the news media wants to talk about beef, beef, beef, beef and more beef.
The reason supermarkets are charging these prices is because people are paying the amounts, plain and simple.
Wait for the sales, buy extra. Stock up and freeze.
Just bought some standing rib roasts at Food Lion for 8 something a pound. Into the freezer they went.
Since I was a teenager, Publix was considered the “rich” supermarket. Once Food Lion, Albertsons, and Winn Dixie disappeared from central Florida, Publix was all that was left, so we acclimated to the prices. Aldi in our area is pretty unsavory (disgusting produce conditions, dirty store aisles, and questionable meats), leaving few other options for chain grocers.
The wife and I go to a local market to buy our produce, and a butcher one town over sources all of their meat from a farm in north Florida. Despite having to shell out a few grand for a half cow, the overall price comes out to about $13/lb., and we have 200+ lbs. of beef that lasts us 6-8 weeks.
We’re shelling out on average a little over $300 a week for the two of us, but we only eat whole food. If you want to eat out of bags, boxes, and cans, you can stock up for months from one trip to Costco, but our health is more important.
Ok, so Prime is the best USDA grade but that’s still a pretty penny.
Same here in texas, I no longer buy beef.
It’s prime, of course it’s expensive. What are the choice and select prices?

For beef and pork, we tend to go to Sam’s Club. We’re in Western PA, so for chicken, we stock up when we go to a local fish store (Wholey’s). They sometimes have 10lb bags of boneless chicken breasts for 20 or 30 bucks.

well, no big deal, those poor people should shop at walmart instead of a ‘premium’ store like publix. or perhaps they can become a faggy vegan instead.
I say this as I make a reservation from 2 at flemings for their porterhouse for two special next tuesday. If I never have to buy meat at grocery store, it doesn’t bother me that much.
I bought our 3.8 pound beef tenderloin this year for $146 at Publix. The binging boob at the meat counter wrote down my order 3 days before Christmas on a piece of butcher paper. When I showed to pick up, it wasn’t ready. Had to wait over an hour. It was Christmas Eve and I had no time to go elsewhere. I sent a complaint and got back a form letter that promised to “do better.” Will do additional training blah blah blah.
My favorite cookies used to be from Publix: toffee espresso. Not sure if they’re still sold; we haven’t been there in a very long time.
We rarely buy beef any more. I’m not an economist, but it seems that if we stopped buying, prices would decrease. IDK if true.
I buy my steaks at Publix because, even at the higher prices, their meats are just better (more quality control).
That said, because of the higher prices, I eat less steak.
It takes months for chickens and hogs to mature but cattle 2-3 years.

BUT, if you are the illegal invader paying with an EBT card (FKA food stamps), $25 a pound for a bone-in ribeye is no big deal.
That’s a good deal. I like Costco for bulk. It’s like Sam’s, and they give out samples that whet your appetite.
I worked at a processing plant in Omaha back in the 80s that processed mostly utility cattle like bulls, dairy etc. for grinding. We had a guy who had an eye for quality meat & I used to buy boxes of t-bones for a few bucks. My father was in heaven. He could grill one up & serve it to you and you’d swear it was a Choice/Prime steak.
Remember telling my FIL about it & he said dairy cattle are fed a lot of grain so the meat quality would be good.
