A forklift driver was allegedly talking on the phone when he struck and killed a 45-year-old man.
According to WTOC, new information has emerged about a fatal forklift incident that occurred in April at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America site.
The report states that 45-year-old Sunbok You, the CEO of Hyundai subcontractor SBY America, was struck and killed at the HL-GA Battery Company construction site. While speaking with workers at around 4:45 p.m. on March 21, You walked across a road before being struck by a forklift.
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office told WTOC reporters at the time that You’s body was “lying behind the forklift,” with a 10- to 15-foot-long trail of blood. The outlet obtained graphic images of the incident and reported that You was severed from the waist up in front of a forklift labeled “Hyundai.”
HL-GA Battery Company issued the following statement to the outlet around the time of the incident:
“Recently, there was a tragic incident at the site of our manufacturing facility in Bryan County which resulted in a fatality. We express our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of the deceased. We are offering support services and are reinforcing safety protocols. We are fully cooperating with OSHA on the investigation.”
An OSHA report reviewed by WTOC reportedly states that You was wearing a black vest and an eye patch over his right eye while on the construction site and was not wearing a high-visibility green vest, as required by HL-GA Battery Company rules.
A translated statement given to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) by a safety manager stated that the forklift driver was talking on the phone while operating the vehicle and “ran away” without checking on You after the collision.

When I worked in maintenance repairing forklift damaged equipment was almost daily. Management pushes forklift, actually all equipment operators, to unsafe speeds.Got to move that merchandise.
"Bryan County EMS records show in a 16-month period, there were 53 calls for services at the site, including over a dozen for traumatic injuries. That includes another forklift accident and a worker being caught in a conveyor belt.
Earlier this month, a construction worker on the site went to the hospital after being seriously injured in a pipe explosion."
This is another paragraph in the other article:
"Governor Brian Kemp, who has publicly supported the Hyundai project since its announcement and attended the grand opening ceremony of HMGMA, refused to give WTOC an interview about safety issues on the project. We asked him at an event on Tuesday whether he thinks the State of Georgia is doing enough to regulate the site. His response was: "”We have an open investigation or those open investigations on those so I wouldn’t want to speak to those right now,” Kemp said."
Brian Kemp doesn't care about having fair elections in his state of Georgia, why would he care about safety issues at a Hyundai construction site.
Got it wrong. Thanks.
I didn’t realize he was the guy on the phone. I thought the walker was.
If allowing for a smashing effect before ripping apart not very fast. The more diminutive the physique the easier the job—RIP.
I thought that video was astonishingly entertaining, some Freeper sent that link to me a few years back.
It reminded me a little bit of that LOX (Liquid Oxygen) Safety Training film I saw back in the Seventies when I was in the US Navy. It was a great and effective way to poke a hole through the thick, young male skulls of ours and introduce some safety knowledge to save our own worthless lives.
It seamlessly goes from cheesy training film to a slasher horror movie.
Only Germans...
I don't know if you have seen this, but it is a safety film that goes from really cheesy training film into real horror movie in the blink of an eye-it really got our attention:

What’s to check on? I’m sure he saw what happened and knew there was no question the guy was a goner.
