In the 1988 movie “Cocktail,” Tom Cruise’s character Brian Flanagan had the enduring quote that, “Everything ends badly, otherwise it wouldn’t end.”
Well, Kansas City Chiefs fans who are actually in Missouri… that line appears to hold true today as it did all those years ago.
At the tail end of what’s been a brutal year (the team lost superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL, and star tight end Travis Kelce officially appears to be losing the battle with Father Time) where the Chiefs will finish with a losing record, the team gave its local fans one last dose of bad news.
As ESPN reported, the Chiefs announced Monday that the team would be leaving Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, and will head across the state line to relocate to Kansas City, Kansas, ahead of the 2031 NFL season.
The locals are not taking the news especially well, including Gov. Mike Kehoe — who had been working tirelessly to secure a funding package to renovate Arrowhead Stadium so that the Chiefs would stay put in the state they’ve called home since 1963.
(The Chiefs were originally based in Dallas and were known as the “Texans” when the team debuted in 1960, before moving to Kansas City, per CBS Sports.)
“They thought new and shiny was better than old and reliable,” Kehoe said.

That’s sort of what I thought. The Kansas side of KC is probably just as big, if not bigger.
And if you think about it, the vast majority of fans watch the game on tv, they are not at the stadium.
So if they are watching on tv, do those fans really care if the stadium is in Kansas or in Missouri?
Ev’rythin’s up to date in Kansas City
They’ve gone about as fur as they c’n go!
They went and built a skyscraper seven stories high,
About as high as a buildin’ orta grow.
“It actually moves the team to a much better part of the metro area.”
It’s been about 25 years since I’ve been to that area. Back then, the area seemed decent. Independence was nearby.
Has it declined that much since I was last there?
You mean, finding a way to get taxpayers to build a stadium for the billionaire owners.
I wouldn't say declined. It's just the Kansas side has maintained more economic/upscale energy. The downtown is even a pleasant surprise with the re-development of the Power and Light entertainment/dining district. I would love to see a downtown stadium (I still remember the old Memorial stadium before Arrowhead).
The development of the Kansas Speedway in 2001 begat Sporting KC’s move from Arrowhead to its own stadium in Wynadotte County. Now the Chiefs want to join Sporting KC and NASCAR on that side of the area.
“Dynastic”
/dīˈnastik,dəˈnastik/
adjective
relating to a line of hereditary rulers of a country.
“the last dynastic rulers of Rome”
relating to a succession of people from the same family who play a prominent role in business, politics, or another field.
“the plot concerns the dynastic struggles of two brothers”
Poo. The Chiefs aren’t leaving. This is more like moving to the suburbs to escape the tax base.
That illustrates Jets fans, doesn’t it?
J-E-S-T! JEST! JEST! JEST!
ANYONE POSTING CRIME STATISTICS FOR KC, MO?
Losing more games than in recent years hurts the fan base a lot more than moving across the river to a new stadium.
Kansas City, Kansas has a high crime rate. Just wait until the fans start getting mugged aged a game.
“Gonna Kansas City,
Kansas City, here I come”
Notice that the songwriters (Lieber and Stoller far away in NYC) felt compelled to put both Kansas Cities into the lyrics.
Besides, Missouri will still have the St. Louis Cardinals...er, Rams....er Oh well, guess not.
Fans can blame Taylor Swift for this...
BTW, what a coincidence...2 playoff spots left, 1 in the NFC, 1 in the AFC...in each winner gets the division and the playoffs, the other is out. Wow, amazing both are divisional games, and they just happen to play each other in the final regular season game(baltimore at pitt/carolina at tampa)...yeah, "amazing".
It's all becoming "professional" wrestling.
