If you want something truly special watch The 3 Godfathers starring John Wayne, Harry Carey Jr and Ward Bond.

Nomination for Honorable Mention:

Although The Wizard of Oz has no Christmas theme whatsoever the networks started playing the movie in the Christmas season over eighty years ago. I remember in the early 60’s it was a big deal, a family get together every year with the Christmas tree in the room. Besides, we all knew Santa Claus was a fake as we had no fireplace but always got presents. ;-)

I have to agree with you.

As a rule I like Barbara Stanwyck movies.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is one of the greatest movies ever made — of ANY genre.

The elements you describe tell a real-world story. But the underlying story of hope, resilience and redemption makes it an epic classic.

I wouldn’t consider it among the best, but I do believe that The Ref is underrated.

I would add: Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) with Steve Martin and John Candy. Yeah, I know its technically a Thanksgiving movie, but you could easily imagine its happening around Christmas time too.

I have not yet seen Elf, but been hearing the buzz for a while. Maybe I’ll do it this year.

My favorite Christmas movies: “Krampus”, “Fred Claus”, “Miracle On 34th Street” (both versions), “The Polar Express” and “The Grinch”.

Your post reminded me of Perry Comos Christmas show. That was a must watch pick by my mother growing up. I might have to dig out the CD I found at a thrift store.

Ok, I’m gonna be way too honest here. The last week or so, I’ve been watching Hallmark Christmas movies at night (Diana, you know where I’ve been until last night!). When you’re finished with a busy day taking care of others, retreating to a feel good, made for TV Christmas movie helps settle one down. They follow the same progression, but at the end of the day (or night), they have a happy ending, and you get to sleep in peace. Sleep is wonderful and amazing. A very healing thing for your body. Don’t underrate it.

And the best ending to It’s A Wonderful Life was done by SNL.
