Russian petrol prices are rising due to fiscal pressure, with the state taking up to 60% of the cost per litre in taxes and levies.
Russia also operates a so-called damper mechanism that makes fuel prices largely independent of global oil prices but prevents them from falling.
Yury Stankevich, deputy chairman of the State Duma's energy committee, previously proposed considering the possibility of introducing fuel subsidies for specific groups of Russian citizens following the same programme developed in Iran more than a decade ago.
The parliamentarian said it is impossible to deny the social significance of fuel prices.
The contrast comes as Russia's inflation continues to accelerate, with the central bank warning that price growth could reach 9% for 2024, well above its 4% target.
Fuel price increases compound household budget pressures as wages struggle to keep pace with rising living costs.
Russian petrol (gasoline) has become 8% more expensive than in the United States, where fuel prices have dropped below $3 per gallon for the first time since 2021 on December 8.
Whilst American drivers benefit from global market dynamics of the Trump administration, Russian motorists face a state-controlled pricing system that shields revenues but leaves consumers bearing the burden of higher costs.
Market analysts told Nezavisimaya Gazeta that falling US fuel prices stem from declining global crude oil prices, which account for up to half of fuel costs.
The situation was caused by stagnating demand and reduced travel.

Russia has been called gas station to the world. Now Russia has trouble being gas station to Russia. One perk of being a Roooski has always been cheap gasoline...but not anymore.
Oh well, I am not living there, so ...
We will be paying super high prices next time RATs takeover.
That is what I care about.
By the metric of another site, Russia and the US are rather similar, circa 0.85 - 0.87 but what is interesting is to note that the UK stands at about 1.8, so more than double Russia or these United States. Germany is higher at about 1.9 and Norway is at 2.01. Hong Kong is about 3.71.Cheapest, as if that is a metric worth cheering, is Libya at 0.028, but none of us would want to go there.....
From the site -- "As a general rule, richer countries have higher prices while poorer countries and the countries that produce and export oil have significantly lower prices. One notable exception is the U.S. which is an economically advanced country but has low gas prices. "

Surely seems one can look at comparative hgasoline prices around the US to find that those wacky "liberals" drive up prices with controls and taxation here. In that regard, Source: Gasoline prices, liter, 08-Dec-2025 GasBuddy, current info.
I’m more concerned about the price of eggs in Russia /s
The Russian government will work to pay its soldiers on time and in full.
I saw $1.99 gas in Texas yesterday.
“Affordability Crisis” my hiney.
.

I understand. It used to be a life or death thing for the zeeptards. 😁
A war of conquest has consequences.
Any word on the price of gasoline in Europe, or the price of Electricity?
Thanks, I posted before reading down. I suspected that most of the world pays FAR MORE than Russia, even countries with lower standards of living, like in Europe.
“A war of conquest has consequences.”
Yep, Europeans are getting HAMMERED with their gasoline prices (as shown above). Must suck over there.
Without question, the most astonishing media reporting of the past week has been the complete lack of publication of the many expansive agreements signed during Putin’s visit to Delhi.
These were not of the sort that we saw in Korea where agreements with China were annonnced by Bissent and Lutnik and never confirmed by the Chinese, and probably far more important there were never signed documents detailing a framework. The Chinese side agreed that there was a framework, in announcements to the media, and it was discussed that there would be a fleshing out and a detailing of that framework for signature within about a week.
It never happened.
In contrast Putin and Modi signed documents greatly expanding and extending their economic relationship, which Putin was quoted as saying went well past oil and gas that was presented as default. Modi then went to the microphone and said the same thing.
You will only see this if you dig for non-western media. It’s astonishing and disgusting and profoundly disappointing.
“Any word on the price of gasoline in Europe, or the price of Electricity?”
Russia is or was gas station to the world, not Europe. Russia had cheap gasoline, same as many other petro- abundant nations. Such as Iran, cheap gasoline to buy off the Ayatollah hating peasantry. Libya and Venezuela were the same under the twin crazies, Gaddafi and Chavez.
So if gas here in the US is $3 per gallon, it’s a jaw-dropping $3.24 in Russia? Oh noez.
I guess this must be their end, neocons and Zeeper s**tposters were right all along.

That would bother me if I were considering moving there. So are you considering moving there? There is a lot for conservatives to like there (like kids protected from queers, and being able to drive non-electric cars, etc.), so I could see why you’d be so concerned over their gasoline price.
Gasoline (or petrol as they call it) is always much more expensive in Europe than here. On the flip side they generally don’t drive nearly as much as we do here as destinations are much closer together.
Being Christmas and all, I am in fact looking out for you. In case you move to Russia, gasoline is no longer a bargain in fake Tsar Land.
Putin is no Hugo Chavez, man of the people, who kept gasoline prices ultra low for the farmers and proletariat.
You’re the one who seems obsessed by Russia’s gasoline price, so not sure why you’re addressing your concerns to me.
