Online claims of "large underground structures" discovered under Egypt's famed pyramids of Giza are unfounded, experts in the field say. The assertions stem from a YouTube video featuring three Italian researchers with no background in Egyptology or archaeology.
The claims spread on social media after three researchers -- Corrado Malanga, Armando Mei and Filippo Biondi -- held a press conference March 22 and 23 on YouTube.
"The pyramids are monumental stone structures, built on a flat plateau," said Jean-Guillaume Olette-Pelletier, doctor of Egyptology at the University of Paris-Sorbonne (archived link). "They were then excavated or converted to include burial and funerary chambers, but there is no evidence of underground networks as deep as those mentioned."
However, the researchers' claims are not based on "any scientifically valid data," Olette-Pelletier said.
Zahi Hawass, an archaeologist and former Egyptian minister of antiquities, also refuted the allegations in a March 26 statement (archived links here and here).
"The rumors suggesting the presence of columns beneath the Pyramid of Khafre are nothing but fabrications propagated by individuals with no expertise in ancient Egyptian civilization or the history of the pyramids," he said.
Hawass added that no researchers have used radar devices inside the pyramid.
"There is no scientific evidence to support these assertions, and no archaeological missions are currently working inside the Pyramid of Khafre."

I love a good hoax! Not sure this’s one was rated “good”, but the effort is appreciated.
But wait, they are on a mesa, right? There’s a steady 1.6 gigahertz noise too, I’ll bet the ranch on it.
It would be cool if it were true. Then I could speculate about the Nephilim, who ruled the Earth before the flood, ~8,000 b.c.
History’s “Ancient Aliens” will run a half season of episodes, on this stuff.

Zahi Hawass is the self appointed guardian of the Giza plateau monuments. He is also accused of hiding and covering up major discoveries that contradict the 2,500 year old Egyptian narrative begun by Herodotus, as well as selling artifacts found in secret digs on the blackmarket. He is also accused of deliberately letting people, engaged in an unsanctioned dig, suffocate in a roof collapse.
The underground “structures” were found by very questionable methods, using techniques not designed to make the findings claimed. The claimed detailed imagery published are “artist concepts,” not real findings, which are impossible to interpret from the raw data in any meaningful way.

Zahi Hawass is the Joe Biden of Egyptology. Watching the hoaxers back in March was amusing, but nothing was gained by this canard from Zahi’s presence.
Of course! That’s where the casino was.
At least 20% of the content on YouTube is about giant structures under the pyramids. Another 20% is how the pyramids had to be built by aliens.
So that’s where the Stargate’s been hidden.
The denials of underground chambers by “official” archaeologists may be correct. The problem everyone else has is that it is well established that official archaeologists are always denying discoveries or theories contrary to the “official” opinions. They have done it continually for so long they have professional and personal stakes AGAINST anyone or anything that contradicts them.
Let’s be clear here. There are folks who believe that they know EVERYTHING about the Giza plateau, and any alternate theories are quackery. I’m not sure they’re right.
That may be so, but if it is, in fact, true about these supposed underground chambers, what would they gain by hiding this? Seems like they'd make a lot more from tourism, etc., if this was true.
