I wear a suit and tie Sunday morning as the greeter I try and set the example.
So does our pastor.
We have others that do and others that are dressed in jeans and flannel.
Some women in dresses some in slacks.
Rarely someone will show up dressed inappropriate.
Our entire society is dressing down for everything. No more suits and dresses at work. Sean Duffy gets mocked for telling people to not wear sweatpants and pajamas when they fly to try to bring a little class back to air travel. People come into church as if they just came in from plowing the field. People walk around in public in what looks like pajamas.
One note of hope is that the young people in my office seem to be dressing more professionally. They may be rebelling against the “casual culture.” Maybe there is hope for the future.
People who dress well act differently, which would change the ambience of public society if it were implemented. Convincing most people to dress up, particularly those segments of society who are the least mannered publicly, would be impossible, however; it would have to be imposed.
Everywhere...yoga pants!
Not too long ago, only women in MTV videos and street walkers wore skin tight, spray on clothes.
There was a time that “Sunday Best” meant the clothes you wore to church. This summer at my Catholic church I saw a guy in shorts, flipflops and a Hawaiian shirt.
rather they stem from a desire to raise our own attitudes and radiate respect for ourselves, others, and the true, good, and beautiful things in life in the process.
On the other hand, sometimes I dress down to test hearts. A financial guy just lost a million dollar account because that is not what he saw. I did take the time to correct him and told him he should see everyone as a big account. But of course he didn’t hear the message, he thought I was mean and unjust for correcting him.
So regarding churches? I have experienced them putting more value on my money that me..............................
So............test hearts before making a judgement.
I’m a chick.
And about the size and height of your average NCAA place kicker.
I cannot buy off the rack unless I buy menswear.
Dress nicely?!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ll settle for being decently covered.
And people get annoyed if you don’t.
“In other words, if we want to float through life as a nobody, then we should absolutely continue wearing our jeans, sweatshirts, and sneakers to all occasions – church, work, and special events.”
Still only wearing shorts here.

My mother always said something very similar: that that the way you dress for something is the way you feel about it.
People have lost all sense of propriety. It’s a lack of respect to be inappropriately dressed say, at a funeral, a church, a visit to someone’s home, etc.
Recently I went to a funeral and people were there who looked like they just left the beach.
It’s what Jordan Petersen called ‘Idiot Casual’
Dress, behavior and all the rest, you can always count on people to live down to your lowest expectations.
Every time I go to Wally World, it takes all the restraint I can muster not to walk up to rank strangers and ask them, “Who told you it was fitting to leave the house dressed like that?”
1. Maybe we should be glad they’re going to church at all.
2. The 6 or so years ago I shopped for a “decent” new suit and they wanted $600. I could probably get a cheaper suit, but my old ones will do for now.
“Even the ladies, she noticed, were wearing skirts and dresses instead of pants”
I never wear pants into church. And that includes when I’m there alone practicing organ, etc. I hate to see it, but it’s so common now 🫤
My old boss’s view was a fit guy in clean kakis and a golf shirt looked better than an obese guy in a jacket and tie. He had a point.
At Microsoft for business roles, there is expected interview attire:
Levi’s, a pressed shirt and Sport Coat.
Right now, I’m at SEA on a trip to AUS, wearing 501Ts, a plaid Orvis shirt in fall colors, a Filson field coat lined in heavy wool buffalo plaid, and fresh Redwing Loggers. All outdoorsman wear, but fresh, clean, expensive and likely to last decades. In Seattle, I’m the best dressed guy at the airport.
Well i don’t know about any of that, but I just hope we don’t consider braless tops in the summertime a form of lowest common denominator...
...that would be a shame.. .
one of the young gals at a relatives for Thanksgiving was wearing those awful torn up jeans - just disgusting. I started noticing this trend a couple of decades ago - two things tipped me off. Golfers from California wearing their shirts outside their golf shorts and people going into nice restaurants with jeans tees and sneakers.
I dress in khakis or dress pants with a button down shirt for church, as most of the time it is too warm to wear a jacket.
On a lighter note, if churches kept the sanctuary in the low 60s, women would wear less revealing clothes.
