An explosion rocked a Harvard Medical School building early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The unknown device exploded on the fourth floor of the Goldenson building on the Harvard Longwood Campus’s main quad shortly before 3 a.m., The Harvard Crimson reported citing authorities.
Two individuals were witnessed running out of the building at the time of the detonation, the outlet said, citing the Harvard University Police Department.
An officer with the university failed in an attempt to stop them, before entering the building to check on the alarm, The Boston Globe reported.
The Boston Fire Department determined the explosion was intentional and conducted a sweep of the building which found no additional devices, according to the Crimson.
No injuries were reported.
Sources familiar with the investigation told The Post the explosive device was not a bomb but declined to further detail the incident.

Excellent observation. You’re right on the money.
Harvard will probably offer scholarships to them
Maybe the Weather Underground is back. Ask Obama

Ok, so what is it? Dry ice in a coke bottle? A firework?
Osama bin Obama has a chared lump of coal for a heart and a hive of red ants for a brain. Absolutely nothing that comes from him makes any sense or is good for anyone.
I don’t understand taking the “explody thing” all the way up to the 4th floor, making the escapade much more dangerous by stretching out the getaway time.
OK, this part of the story confuses me.
Maybe just someone who didn’t study for Mid-Terms and just wanted a few more days to prepare???
When i was still in high school, one day i was sitting in class when all of the sudden an explosion occured in the hallway right outside my classroom. As it turned out, as a prank, some kid set off an M-80 firecracker (i think its a quarter stick of dynamite) and ran for the exits.
In those days most school buildings, including mine, had no security cameras anywhere in the building. The technology existed, but schools had as of yet to make use of it. So there was no video of who did it. Still, it didnt take long for the school to find out who was the culprit.
In his haste to make his escape after lighting the fuse, he forgot to take his bookbag with him. I do not know how they punished him.
lab rat lovers, building haters
The only explosion I ever witnessed in high school was when we goaded our chemistry teacher to toss an even larger chunk of phosphorus into the big mud puddle behind the science building.
Those silly Mennonites!
I was thinking m-80/cherry bomb in the toilet...
One in the toilet bowl. Water takes over that floor. School closed for the day. Don't ask me how I know.
Potassium.
“...an M-80 firecracker (i think its a quarter stick of dynamite) and ran for the exits.”
M-80’s were big. But I don’t thing they were anything close to 1/4 stick of dynamite.
Thanks for the correction! I knew it was one of those two . . .
