I know many claim things are better but the there are 0.97 open jobs to every 1 unemployed...Businesses are closing right and left..Banks are in trouble, repos are at record levels, Credit Card defaults are at atmospheric levels. Beginning to look like 1929...the beginnings of it anyway...Let them eat cake I guess...
October layoffs Amazon 30,000+ UPS 46,000 Target 1,800 Paramount 1,000 Applied Materials 1,400 Sika 1,800 And many more
We’re going in a recession soon, its not Trumps fault but the President always gets the blame, hopefully its over before the midterms.
“A large chunk of those let go were government employees.”

“Why is the market (especially the Nasdaq) still going up?”
People are drunk on AI bullshit.
I must admit that I’m a bit confused by your post. Are you just stating a few facts for general interest, or are you trying to point us to a conclusion of some sort?
If it’s the latter, what is that conclusion?
That Trump is not doing a good job with the economy?
That Trump’s tariffs are harming the country?
That interest rates should be lowered?
Or is it something else?
“Let them eat cake I guess“
Yeah ok we see what you are about.
Working without pay is bullshit.
I’m a private sector guy, but not paying employees whether public or private isn’t right.
>> I have been fired once as I told the VP of IT to suck my d___
You poor thing! Who would ever have expected THAT outcome from such an innocent comment.
Question for ya — how’d it go? Did he S your D? Did you enjoy it?

To many people don’t realize that when they are working people are watching. And if you are a stellar employee, you are kept track of for possible future employment. You should be working as if you are the boss because that is just prep work for when you do become the boss.
But I am going to assume you know this already.
Because the market looks at long term strength and recognizes short term fluctuations are normal and likely necessary for the long range existence of a business. In other words most of these industries are shedding dead wood and becoming more efficient and using more technology…and the USAID trickle down must be hitting home, finally. Now, let’s get to work.
I wonder how many fleeing/deported illegal aliens and H1Bs were included in that number.
Amazon lays off were 14,000. I suppose your other stats are as screwed up as you are.

If never works out. I told a DI to kiss my democrat. He did not do that at all. But it was like getting two for one in the fitness part of boot camp for 13 weeks.
NASDAQ is going crazy because it’s all speculation on AI startups. On the other hand, established companies are laying off tens of thousands based on the same speculation and they are throwing billions at AI and reducing headcount to pay for it. Things will get much uglier before it gets better. This has nothing to do with President Trump, however, it’s just the timing of this AI bubble we’re in.
I am working at this job for 9 years with spotless employment but I am hearing rumblings of reorgs coming and I am 63....Ageism is alive and well.
The whole world is in an AI transformation. Entire job sectors are going away. Taxis will soon be driverless; hotel check-in without talking to anyone; Architects will soon be replaced by someone who can design a building to code using AI in minutes - look for a job that requires a real person: plumber, carpenter, etc.
I might have said “screw that” once to an employer, who promptly fired me. I was advocating for a $.50/hour raise for an excellent part-time assistant we had, who worked 10 hours per week. His net was around $300K/ year. He suggested I “step up my game” and make sure he didn’t forget to do things or miss client appointments, since he had newly discovered adult ADHD, he said.
So sad... what used to be a reliable harsh insult might now be viewed as a pick-up line! Dxmn you, alphabet “community”...
I did not stick around...they were upset.
